‘If You Strike Electricity, We Will Strike Electricity’: Iran Warns US Amid Hormuz Standoff
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has warned it will respond directly to any attack on its power plants, as the 48-hour Hormuz open deadline set by US President Donald Trump nears.
In a statement carried by Fars News Agency, the IRGC said it would act in kind if its electricity infrastructure is targeted.
“If you strike electricity, we will strike electricity," the group said, signalling a direct response to any such move.
The warning follows an earlier statement from Iran’s military that it is prepared to shut the Strait of Hormuz indefinitely if Trump carries out threats to bomb Iranian power plants.
Iran also said Israeli energy and communications infrastructure, as well as power facilities in regional countries hosting US bases, would be targeted.
The IRGC said attacks on electricity networks would disrupt essential services, including hospitals, emergency centres, water systems and desalination plants.
“Targeting electricity infrastructure would disrupt essential humanitarian services… which is inhumane," the statement said.
IRGC added that it would retaliate by striking Israeli power plants, along with facilities in regional countries that supply electricity. It also warned of attacks on economic, industrial and energy infrastructure linked to US interests.
On Sunday, Tehran issued a sharp warning saying that if its energy infrastructure is targeted, it will strike back at energy, IT and desalination facilities belonging to the United States and its allies in the region.
Meanwhile, Trump on Monday cited former US President Ronald Reagan’s Cold War approach, writing “PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH, TO PUT IT MILDLY!!!" in a post on Truth Social.
Trump’s warning comes amid his 48-hour ultimatum to Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz.Trump’s use of the phrase suggests a similar approach to the present situation with Iran, aiming to end threats decisively, including through recent operations, rather than allowing prolonged conflict.
Trump said on Sunday that the outcome of the ultimatum would be “very good", but warned it could lead to Iran’s “total decimation" if Tehran failed to comply. “You’re gonna find out soon. It’s gonna be very good," Trump told Israel’s Channel 13.
