ICC Women's World Cup prize money

ICC Women's World Cup prize money: India's women's cricket team is set to play South Africa in the World Cup final. A victory could significantly boost the sport's popularity. The team is motivated after a strong semifinal performance. This match marks a potential historic moment for Indian women's cricket. The prize money for the tournament has seen a substantial increase.

Indian women's cricket stands on the brink of a watershed moment, reminiscent of the men's historic 1983 triumph, with the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side determined to end its ICC trophy drought when it faces a formidable South Africa in the Women's World Cup final here Sunday.

The 13th edition of the World Cup is guaranteed to crown a new champion — between third-time finalists India and first-time finalists South Africa — both riding on the back of remarkable campaigns.

A title triumph could trigger an unprecedented surge of interest in women's cricket in India, inspiring a new generation of young girls to take up the sport — perhaps even more than the advent of the Women's Premier League did three seasons ago.

But the hosts will need to quickly move past their emotionally draining semifinal win here three nights ago — one that might have already earned them the “favourites” tag.

Jemimah Rodrigues' unforgettable 127 not out and Harmanpreet's gritty 89, coupled with an uncharacteristically erratic outing from seven-time champions Australia, carried India into yet another summit clash — a stage where heartbreak has struck far too often.

ICC Women's World Cup prize money breakdown:

The champions of the upcoming ICC Women's World Cup will receive the biggest-ever prize money in the history of the tournament. It has been hiked from $1.32 million (Rs 11.65 crore) in the previous edition to $4.48 million (Rs 39.55 crore). Overall, the eight-team event will witness nearly a three-fold increase in prize money, with the ICC announcing a total prize purse of $13.88 million (about Rs 122.5 crore ) for the mega event.

Meanwhile, the runners-up will now receive $2.24 million (Rs 19.77 crore approx), an increase of 273 per cent in comparison to the $600,000 (Rs 5.30 crore), while the two losing semi-finalists will be richer by $1.12 million (Rs 9.89 crore approx), up from $300,000 (Rs 2.65 crore approx) in 2022) each. Each group stage win will attract $34,314 (Rs 30.29 lakhs). The teams finishing fifth and sixth will take home $700,000 (Rs 62 lakh approx) each and those in seventh and eighth place will earn $280,000 (Rs 24.71 lakh approx). Each participating team will take home $250,000 (Rs 22 lakh approx).

Additionally, BCCI is believed that following the "equal pay" policy with the top brass mulling on rewarding the squad with same amount that was given to the Rohit Sharma-led team after winning the T20 World Cup in the Americas last year, reported PTI.

The entire squad -- players and support staff was rewarded with a whopping Rs 125 crore for their performance in the men's T20 World Cup, where they defeated South Africa in the final.
