'I’ve Just Fallen Out Of Favour With Charlotte Edwards': Kate Cross On World Cup Snub
Star England pacer Kate Cross has boldly stated that she has fallen out of favour with head coach and England great Charlotte Edwards and the idea of not even being on the plane to India for the upcoming ODI World Cup feels ‘savage', giving a no-holds-barred assessment of her snub from the squad.
Cross, a regular in England's ODI setup in recent years, was omitted from the 15-member team for this autumn's World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
England opted for four spinners, Sarah Glenn, Sophie Ecclestone, Linsey Smith and Charlie Dean, while naming Lauren Filer, Lauren Bell and Em Arlott as their frontline pacers, leaving fellow seamer Cross out of the team.
Cross was left out of the final ODI of the home summer against India and missed the Ashes loss in Australia last winter because of a back injury. Since her return, she has struggled to find her best form.
“What I'm really struggling to get my head around is that it all feels like it's happened so quickly. I've just clearly fallen out of favour with Lot [head coach Charlotte Edwards]. I haven't processed it. It's still really raw," Cross said while speaking on the BBC No Balls Podcast.
“Being in the best XI is a different conversation, but not being on the plane, it feels savage. The messages I've had from everyone have been amazing. And ultimately, I'm not going to be playing some cricket, it's minuscule in that sense," Cross added.
The star England pacer, who has picked up eight wickets in six games for the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred this season, is yet to speak with Edwards about the possibility of being named a standby for the World Cup.
