Hyderabad's 'Feel The Jail' Experience Lets You Spend A Day Behind Bars For Rs 2000; Internet Says 'Please Put My Ex There'
Hyderabad has introduced a first-of-its-kind initiative that allows ordinary citizens to spend time inside a prison-like environment and experience a glimpse of life behind bars.
The programme, titled “Feel the Jail" or “Jail Anubhavam," was officially inaugurated in the form of experiential tourism at the historic Chanchalguda Central Jail by Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla.
The initiative offers visitors an opportunity to voluntarily stay inside specially designed prison cells for either 12 hours at Rs 1,000 or 24 hours at Rs 2,000.
Officials behind the programme said the experience has been designed not merely as a tourist attraction, but also as an educational and awareness-driven exercise aimed at helping people understand prison life, discipline, rehabilitation, and the value of personal freedom.
As part of the immersive setup, participants will follow routines similar to those observed inside correctional facilities. Visitors will stay in confined rooms fitted with iron grills, simple bedding, and minimal amenities.
Reports suggest that some cells include a single bed with a navy-blue sheet, an earthen water pot, and a compact washroom, recreating the stark and restrictive atmosphere associated with prison living while maintaining safety and hygiene standards.
Authorities also inaugurated a new Jail Museum within the prison premises. The museum reportedly traces the evolution of correctional systems in the region, documenting the journey of prisons from the era of the Nizams to the modern-day prison administration framework.
The concept falls under what is globally known as “prison tourism" or “dark tourism," where visitors explore sites associated with punishment, crime, or historical incarceration. Similar attractions exist in several countries, where old prisons have been converted into museums or immersive heritage spaces.
However, the initiative quickly went viral online, with social media users flooding comment sections with jokes, memes, and sarcastic takes on the concept.
One user joked, “I’ll rather beat my enemies then paying to experience jail."
Another sarcastically commented, “For extra 500/- they will also tie you up and beat you!!!"
A third user wrote, “Please put my ex there for jail experience so he would know where he would ending up eventually if he doesn’t learn how to behave."

Another user joked, “3rd degree treatment b milta kya😂😂😂"
