‘Hum Fire & Fire Hai’: Abhishek Sharma’s Hilarious Take on Partnership with Shubman Gill

Star India opener Abhishek Sharma has said that his partnership with Shubman Gill is not that of fire and ice but of fire and fire, pointing to their quick partnership on Saturday, November 8, in Brisbane, a stand that was marred by inclement weather in the city.

India raced to 52/0 in just 4.5 overs before rain interrupted play. Gill (29 off 16) and Abhishek (23 off 13) had been trading strokes in style when the weather brought proceedings to a halt.

When a reporter suggested that Gill and Abhishek were like ‘Fire and Ice', the latter jumped in with a playful correction.

“Sir hum fire ‘n' ice nahi, hum fire and fire hain (We are fire, and fire not fire ‘n' ice). There was no ice; it was only fire today," Abhishek said while speaking at the post-match press conference.

“I know his game, which bowlers he will target and vice-versa with him. There are times, he will come and tell me, ‘wait for a few deliveries and then play this particular shot," Abhishek added.

The star Indian opener is aware of this and with top teams having decoded his game, he will need to evolve, adding new strokes to his repertoire and finding fresh ways to score.

“The more I play for India, the better I will get at reading pitches and accordingly plan my game," Abhishek said.

The star Indian opener ended with 163 runs in five outings, even as two games were rained out.

Earlier, Australia had their opportunities to remove the dangerous Abhishek early but couldn't capitalise on them.

Star Aussie allrounder Glenn Maxwell dropped a sitter after Abhishek miscued a shot in the opening over, while Ben Dwarshuis grassed a straightforward opportunity in the fourth over when Abhishek was on 11.

Three deliveries later, Abhishek thrilled the Indian fans with a powerful flat six over mid-wicket.
