How Gemini Nano Banana Saree Trend Turned ‘Creepy’ For Influencer | Video Warns ‘AI Is Storing Data’
Social media trends come and go but some take a strange turn that makes people stop and think. The latest one involves Google's Gemini Nano AI which is letting women turn their regular photos into vintage saree portraits. What seems like a fun experiment has also raised risks of uploading pictures online.
One such encounter was recently shared on Instagram where she a woman talked about her unusual experience with Gemini and warned others about potential privacy issues when using AI tools.
Shocking Discovery
In her video, the woman explained that she had uploaded a picture of herself in a traditional ethnic attire and provided a prompt to the AI tool to generate a saree image. Gemini then created an AI version of her in a saree with a sleeveless blouse. Initially, she was pleased with the results and shared the AI image widely across social media.
But her excitement soon turned “creepy." She noticed a small but significant detail in the AI-generated image: a mole on her left hand that was not visible in the original photo she had uploaded.
“How Gemini knows I have mole in this part of my body? You can see this mole… this is very scary, very creepy… I am still not sure how this happened. I wanted to share this information with all of you. Please be safe… whatever you're uploading on social media or AI platforms," she shared.

How People Reacted
The clip gained significant attention as it amassed over seven million views. In the comment sections, users shared their own stories and speculated about how Gemini was able to generate such accurate details.
One user explained, “Everything is connected, Gemini belongs to Google, Google reads all the photos you have kept in your Gmail-photos-drive and the posts and videos you have on social media will already be available in the database."
Another wrote, “Yes I have noticed same things," while someone mentioned, “This happened to me too. My tattoos which are not visible in my photos were also visible. I don't know how but it was happening."
“Well, that is exactly how AI works. AI draws information from your digital footprint, from all the images that you have been uploading online. So, when you ask AI to generate an image, it is also going to use your uploads from the past. Your mole is visible in your other pictures. It is good to be careful. AI is not really the problem, oversharing of our own information is the problem," a person shared.
IPS Officer Issues Warning
IPS officer VC Sajjanar issued a strong warning about the potential dangers of sharing personal information online. He urged people to be cautious and make sure they are uploading pictures only to legitimate websites or authorised apps.
“Be cautious with trending topics on the internet! Falling into the trap of the ‘Nano Banana' trending craze… if you share personal information online, such scams are bound to happen. With just one click, the money in your bank accounts can end up in the hands of criminals," he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“Never share photos or personal details with fake websites or unauthorised apps. You can share your joyful moments on social media trends, but don't forget that safety should be your top priority," the officer added.
Sajjanar also reminded users that trends may be temporary but once data is uploaded to unverified platforms, it becomes very difficult to retrieve. “These trends come and make a fuss for a few days before disappearing… Once your data goes to fake websites or unauthorised apps, retrieving it is difficult," he said.
To highlight the seriousness of the issue, the officer tagged various official profiles in his X post, including the Prime Minister's office, the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Telangana Police.
Expert Warns About Hidden Risks Behind Your AI Images
Finance expert Bhanu Pathak also shared a video where he highlighted the risks of uploading personal images to AI platforms. He explained that once a photo is uploaded, users lose control over how or where it is stored.
“Even if platforms promise security, leaks and breaches are always possible. Private images can be misused for identity theft, impersonation, or worse," he added.
Bhanu also detailed how AI models are trained using the images we provide: “Every photo you upload is potential training data. Your face, expressions, and even micro-details become part of machine learning sets. In short, you're giving away biometric gold without consent or payment."
He emphasised that this data is permanent; unlike a password, a person cannot change their face. The misuse of this can lead to surveillance, deepfakes, profiling and other privacy risks.
