Hindustan Zinc Shares Rally 6% As Silver Futures Cross Rs 2.8 Lakh/kg, ETFs Hit Record Highs
Hindustan Zinc Share Price: Shares of Hindustan Zinc surged over 6 percent on January 14 after silver prices climbed to fresh lifetime highs. Silver exchange-traded funds (ETFs) also tracked the rally, rising as much as 5 percent.
The stock advanced to Rs 669.75 in early Wednesday trade, extending its winning streak to a fourth consecutive session.
Silver futures on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) jumped nearly 5 percent to touch a new all-time high of Rs 2,87,990 per kilogram. Contracts with May and July expiries also rose around 5 percent each to record levels of Rs 2,94,503 per kilogram and Rs 3,01,383 per kilogram, respectively.
The rally in the precious metal followed softer-than-expected US inflation data, which strengthened expectations of further interest-rate cuts by the Federal Reserve. The US core Consumer Price Index rose 0.2 percent month-on-month and 2.6 percent year-on-year in December, below forecasts of 0.3 percent and 2.7 percent, respectively, according to Reuters.
“We have very low inflation. That would give ‘too late Powell' the chance to give us a nice beautiful big rate cut," US President Donald Trump said.
Adding to the momentum, Kaynat Chainwala, AVP – Commodity Research at Kotak Securities, said that concerns over political interference in the Federal Reserve, geopolitical tensions in Iran, and a fall in the gold-silver ratio to 54 — within its long-term average range of 50-60 — point to sustained silver outperformance.
Hindustan Zinc shares have gained over 10 percent in the past five sessions and more than 17 percent over the last month. The stock has rallied about 53 percent in the past six months, supported by the sharp rise in silver prices.
The company currently trades at a price-to-earnings ratio of 25.19, with a market capitalisation of Rs 2.82 lakh crore.

Silver ETFs mirrored the surge in prices. The Groww Silver ETF climbed around 5 percent to a fresh record high. DSP Silver ETF, Tata Silver ETF, Nippon Silver ETF (Silverbees), Zerodha Silver ETF and Edelweiss Silver ETF gained over 4 percent each, also hitting new peaks.
UTI Silver ETF, SBI Silver ETF, HDFC Silver ETF, ICICI Pru Silver ETF, Mirae Asset Silver ETF, Aditya Birla Silver ETF, Motilal Oswal Silver ETF, 360 ONE Silver ETF and Kotak Silver ETF rose nearly 4 percent. At the same time, Axis Silver ETF advanced more than 3 percent.
