Hamas To Release All 20 Hostages Soon, Says White House
Hamas will release all 20 living hostages. the White House said on Wednesday after President Donald Trump announced that the first phase of the deal to end the Gaza war was signed between Israel and Hamas.
According to a report by Associated Press, the alive hostages to be exchanged for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners within 72 hours of deal implementation.
CNN quoted a senior White House official as saying that the White House assesses hostages will begin being released on Monday, though it is possible the timeline could move up.
“Once they vote yes, Israel has to withdraw to the line which should take under 24 hours," the official said. “Then the 72 hour clock begins, and Hamas will try to go earlier if possible."
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that he will convene the government to ratify the agreement with Hamas and return the hostages from Gaza.
In a telephonic conversation with President Donald Trump, Netanyahu thanked him for his efforts and invited him to address the Israeli parliament, the Knesset.
He also shared a post on X saying: “With the approval of the first phase of the plan, all our hostages will be brought home. This is a diplomatic success and a national and moral victory for the State of Israel. From the beginning, I made it clear: we will not rest until all our hostages return and all our goals are achieved. Through steadfast resolve, powerful military action, and the great efforts of our great friend and ally President Trump, we have reached this critical turning point. I thank President Trump for his leadership, his partnership, and his unwavering commitment to the safety of Israel and the freedom of our hostages."
Trump on Wednesday announced that Israel and Hamas have signed off on the first phase of the peace deal that will allow release of all hostages.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said: “I am very proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first Phase of our Peace Plan. This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace."
“All Parties will be treated fairly! This is a GREAT Day for the Arab and Muslim World, Israel, all surrounding Nations, and the United States of America, and we thank the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, who worked with us to make this Historic and Unprecedented Event happen. BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS!" he added.
Hamas in a statement announced the conclusion of an agreement “stipulating an end to the war on Gaza, the occupation's withdrawal from it, the entry of aid, and a prisoner exchange."
Earlier in the day, the White House said the President will get a routine physical exam at Walter Reed hospital on Friday, then go to the Middle East shortly thereafter.
During Wednesday's talks for the end of the Gaza war in Egypt's Sharm El-Sheikh, a senior Hamas official said that negotiators for the group and Israel have exchanged lists of hostages and prisoners who would be freed if a ceasefire agreement is reached.
