Google Announces AI-Enabled University, Rs 85 Crore Grant & New AI Learning Tools
Google on Tuesday announced a set of partnerships and new product updates aimed at expanding the use of artificial intelligence in education across India. The announcements were made at the company's AI for Learning Forum held in New Delhi.
The initiatives include a collaboration with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, to establish India's first AI-enabled state university, an Rs 85 crore grant to Wadhwani AI to support government education platforms, and the rollout of new AI-powered learning tools for students and teachers.
India's First AI-Enabled State University
As part of the collaboration with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Chaudhary Charan Singh University will serve as a pilot institution to develop a national framework for modernising higher education and vocational training using Cloud and AI technologies.
Google Cloud will work with the university to introduce AI-led solutions for administrative efficiency, research support and personalised learning. The project aims to address challenges faced by institutions outside major cities by providing students and faculty access to advanced digital tools.
Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (I/C), MSDE and MoE, said, “To realise the vision of a Viksit Bharat, we must empower our entire educational ecosystem with digital tools and AI – from the students in the classroom to the educators leading them. This collaboration with Google Cloud and Chaudhary Charan Singh University is a step toward bridging the digital divide. By establishing this AI-Enabled University pilot, we are aiming to create a framework that will allow thousands of institutions to independently elevate their standards."
“When we equip our teachers with world-class AI tools and our colleges with smarter operational frameworks, we help in preparing students, regardless of geography, to be ready to lead in the AI era. Ultimately, we are working to modernize education so that a student's success is defined by their talent and drive, ensuring they graduate not just with a degree, but with the high-demand skills to thrive in the workforce," he added.
Rs 85 Crore Grant To Strengthen Public Education Platforms
Google.org, the company's philanthropic arm, announced an Rs 85 crore grant to Wadhwani AI to support government-run education platforms such as SWAYAM and the POSHAN Tracker. The initiative aims to use AI to support learners across different stages, including voice-based tools to improve reading fluency in multiple Indian languages and AI-powered English language coaching to improve job readiness.
By December 2027, the programme is expected to reach 75 million students and 1.8 million educators across the country.
New AI Tools For Students And Teachers
Google also announced the launch of full-length JEE Main practice tests within Gemini. Students can access instant feedback to understand their strengths and weaknesses. Similar learning features will soon be available through AI Mode in Search.
New updates will also allow students to create study guides and interactive quizzes using AI Mode in Search, while educators will get additional tools in Google Classroom, including AI-assisted lesson planning, audio and video feedback options and insights into AI usage.

Focus On Access, Safety And Inclusion
Google said India leads globally in daily Gemini usage for learning, with students and teachers widely using tools such as quizzes, flashcards, and study guides. The company has made products, including Gemini, NotebookLM, AI Mode in Search and Google Classroom available in multiple Indian languages.
To support safety and transparency, Google is also deploying SynthID digital watermarking to help identify AI-generated or edited content, allowing users to verify the authenticity of images and videos uploaded to the Gemini app.
