Gold Rush! Pranjali Dhumal Smashes Records, Sweeps Third Medal; India’s Deaflympics Medal Surge Rolls On

The medals just won't stop raining in for India's shooters in Tokyo, and leading the charge on Monday was Pranjali Prashant Dhumal, who produced a wire-to-wire masterclass to clinch gold in the women's 25m pistol.

It's her third medal of these Deaflympics, following gold in the mixed pistol with Abhinav Deshwal and silver in the women's air pistol.

Record-Breaking Dominance

Pranjali arrived in the final already rewriting history, having qualified with a World Deaf Qualification Record and Deaflympics Record score of 573/600 — breaking her own world mark set at last year's World Deaf Shooting Championships in Hannover.

She carried that scorching form straight into the medal round, finishing with a score of 34, two clear of Ukraine's Mosina Halyna, who took silver. Korea's Jeon Jiwon claimed bronze with 30 after winning a shoot-off against India's Anuya Prasad.

Prasad, who had earlier captured gold in the women's air pistol, placed fourth after finishing second in qualification with a superb 569-15x.

India's Shooting Juggernaut Rolls On

Pranjali's gold continues a near-relentless medal haul for India at these Games.

Just a day earlier, Abhinav Deshwal delivered India's 15th shooting medal by taking gold in the men's 25m pistol — also with a qualification record.

With Pranjali's latest triumph, Indian shooters have now amassed 16 medals: 7 gold, 6 silver, 3 bronze.

And the tally may still grow: the shooting campaign wraps up Tuesday with the men's 25m rapid fire pistol event.
