Gold prices in India traded with a mild positive bias on Saturday, January 24, as bullion markets remained steady near record levels amid a cautious global environment. According to the latest retail rates, 24-karat gold is priced at Rs 1,57,160 per 10 grams, slightly higher than Friday's close of Rs 1,57,150. 22-karat gold is selling at Rs 1,44,060 per 10 grams, up marginally from Rs 1,44,050 in the previous session, while 18-karat gold is priced around Rs 1,17,870 per 10 grams in major metros.
The modest uptick reflects stability rather than a strong rally, with investors closely tracking global cues, currency movements, and geopolitical developments for direction.
Silver prices edge higher
Silver prices in India also posted a marginal rise. Silver is trading at Rs 3,401 per 10 grams, while silver prices per kilogram stand at Rs 3,40,100, up Rs 100 from Friday. Silver continues to see heightened interest due to its dual role as both a precious and industrial metal, with demand supported by renewable energy, electronics, and EV-related applications.

Gold–Silver Ratio Signals Shift: Motilal Oswal Favours Gold Over Silver
After an extraordinary rally in silver over the past year, Motilal Oswal Financial Services (MOSFL) believes the balance is tilting back in favour of gold. Silver prices have surged nearly 200% over the last 12 months, significantly outperforming gold's roughly 80% rise, leading to a sharp compression in the gold–silver ratio.
According to the brokerage, this rapid narrowing of the ratio suggests that silver may be closer to overextension, while gold appears better positioned for the next phase of the precious metals rally. With valuations becoming relatively more attractive for gold, MOSFL sees stronger risk-adjusted upside in the yellow metal compared to silver going forward.
