Gold and Silver Rates In India Today, April 2: Gold and silver prices in India fell over 1% on April 2, after US President Donald Trump said the United States would continue the war in Iran over the coming weeks. In Mumbai, the price of 24-carat gold fell to Rs 1,49,910 per 10 grams, while 22k gold was available at Rs 1,37,350 per 10 grams. These rates do not include GST and making charges.
On the MCX, gold prices were trading down by 4.45% at Rs 1,51,400 per 10 grams in the morning trade, while silver fell 4.54% to Rs 2,32,444 per kg.
In January, gold touched its all-time high of over Rs 1,80,000, while silver prices hit a record Rs 4,20,000.
In the international market, US gold prices reversed course to slip more than 1% on Thursday. Spot gold fell 1.3% at $4,694.48 per ounce by 0202 GMT, while US gold futures slid 1.9% to $4,723.70. Prices were up over 1% at their highest levels since March 19 before Trump’s remarks.
The United States would strike Iran “extremely hard" over the next two to three weeks and push it back into the “Stone Ages," Trump told the nation in a televised speech, adding that US strategic objectives in the conflict were close to being fulfilled.
“Gold is pulling back after two superb days, as President Trump was quite bellicose in his tone, referring to aggressive plans over the coming weeks… it suggests the optimism of the last few days was overexuberant and there will be some retracement ahead of the long weekend," said independent metals trader Tai Wong, according to Reuters.
Brent oil prices surged by more than 4%, while the 10-year US Treasury yield and the dollar index advanced, weighing on the greenback-priced metal.
Gold has fallen more than 14% so far this month, marking its steepest monthly decline since October 2008, pressured by the US dollar, which has gained more than 2% since the US-Israeli war on Iran began on February 28.
