Aspirants preparing for the Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering (GATE) 2026 can expect the much-awaited admit cards to be released shortly.
The Indian Institute of Technology, IIT, Guwahati, the organising institute for GATE 2026, is set to issue the hall tickets on the official portal, although a final confirmation date is yet to be announced.
Originally scheduled for release on January 2, the admit cards were postponed, leaving candidates eagerly waiting for an official update. Once released, registered applicants will be able to download their admit cards from gate2026.iitg.ac.in.
Meanwhile, registered candidates can now familiarise themselves with the exam format as IIT Guwahati has released the official mock test link for GATE aspirants. The practice test allows students to experience the actual computer-based test environment, helping them build confidence and fine-tune their exam strategy ahead of the main examination.
The GATE 2026 examination will be held in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode on February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026. Each day will feature two sessions, the morning shift from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and the afternoon shift from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
Every paper will have a duration of three hours.
Under the GATE 2026 marking scheme, each paper will carry a total of 100 marks, with 15 marks allotted to the General Aptitude section and the remaining 85 marks dedicated to the core subject paper, ensuring a balanced assessment of both analytical and technical skills.
NEGATIVE MARKING RULES
This marking scheme encourages accuracy while giving candidates flexibility in non-MCQ sections.
The examination is conducted on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB) under the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.
GATE is a national-level competitive examination that plays a pivotal role in shaping academic and professional careers across India.
It serves as a gateway for admission to Master's and PhD programmes in diverse disciplines such as engineering, technology, science, architecture, and humanities, and is also widely used by leading Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) as a key criterion for recruiting top technical talent.
With just weeks to go before the GATE 2026 examinations, the release of admit cards is the final step before candidates enter the examination phase.
Aspirants are advised to keep checking the official website regularly for updates and download their hall tickets as soon as they are available.
Ensuring timely access to the admit card, verifying exam details, and preparing strategically will be key to performing well in one of India's most competitive entrance examinations.
