Andhra Pradesh: Gas leak at ONGC well in Konaseema triggers fire, no injuries
A gas pipeline leakage at a well in Irusumanda village of Andhra Pradesh's Dr Br Ambedkar Konaseema district caught fire on Monday, PTI reported.
No deaths or injuries had been reported, the news agency quoted an unidentified Oil and Natural Gas Corporation official as saying. The pipeline is operated by the government-owned company's production contractor.
The fire occurred because of a gas pipeline leakage in the Mori-5 well, PTI quoted the official as saying. Officials were assessing the situation at the site.
The smell of the gas had spread near the village, which led the technical teams to alert residents, The New Indian Express reported.
The district administration was coordinating the firefighting and safety measures at the site. Three villages had been evacuated as a precautionary measure.
The Chief Minister's Office said that orders had been issued to evacuate the residents of the villages without causing them distress.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu also directed the administration to ensure that the flames were brought under control immediately, his office said.
