The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has rolled out structural and digital reforms during the year 2025, intending to make the whole process easier, faster and more convenient for the members and pensioners. Here are 16 major EPFO reforms that you should know:
The withdrawal provisions, which were located in 13 different detailed paragraphs, have now been simplified and merged into one single provision. Members now have the right to withdraw 75 per cent of their PF balance easily, while the remaining 25 per cent will continue to be added to the retirement fund.
The Auto Advance Claim facility, which was earlier available only for medical reasons (illness), has now been expanded to include marriage, housing and education. In addition, the withdrawal limit has been increased to Rs 5 lakh in 2025. Presently, 47.48 per cent of the total claims and 72.09 per cent of advance claims are getting settled automatically.
An Auto Transfer Request facility was instituted in January 2025, which made the whole process of transfer hassle-free, as neither the employee nor the employer was needed for the intervention. By the end of 2025, a total of 65.75 lakh transfer cases were processed.
From April 2025, bank account seeding does not require employer approval, which culminated in the processing of 1.07 crore cases.
Online bank verification through NPCI and the participating banks has made it possible to eliminate bank cheque leaf or passbook uploads, which in turn has led to a reduction of errors. By December 2025, 4.60 crore claims had been processed through this system.

The Profile Editing Facility has become simple due to the January 2025 launched cooperative Declaration process. Now, members can easily change their profile details with no third-party intervention required. Over 32.23 lakh profile corrections were done till December 2025, which is the total.

By making the process less complicated and by organising their work smartly, the EPFO gave the 8.25 per cent interest for FY 2024-25 to almost all accounts by July 2025.
A special bulk UAN generation facility was established for those cases where the exemption was revoked, thus preventing any issues with the credit of previous PF accumulations. The total number of UANs generated was 88,262.
Since September 2025, the Transfer Certificates are directly downloadable from the Member Portal, allowing easy access to PF transfer details for members.

By collaborating with India Post Payments Bank, EPFO has initiated the door-to-door Digital Life Certificate submission service for EPS pensioners, thus solving the problems encountered by people living in remote areas or having limited digital access.
The eligibility of applicants under the EDLI Scheme of 1976 has been relaxed, the minimum benefits have been increased to Rs 50,000, and the service continuity rules softened. The combined effect of these steps is an increase in the insurance coverage and the overall financial security of the families of the deceased members.
