Foreigners Try Rajnigandha Pan Masala, Say It’s...: ‘Videsh Mein Labourers Kya Khaate Hain?’
In India, pan masala has long been a common chewable item, especially among daily wage workers and labourers. Brands like Rajnigandha are found in small packets at almost every corner shop, with many consuming it as part of their daily routine, whether as a quick refreshment, a pastime during work hours or even as a substitute for smoking and other addictions.
Now, a viral video by New Zealand-based YouTuber Karl Rock has put Rajnigandha Pan Masala in the global spotlight. In the clip, Karl introduces the product to his foreign friends and records their candid, unfiltered reactions.
Shared on Instagram on July 21, the video has already crossed 5.4 million views, with the comments section overflowing with hilarious responses from amused viewers.
The Viral Taste Test
The video begins with Karl Rock explaining how to consume Rajnigandha. He says, “You kind of rip the packet open, you put a bunch of it in your mouth, and you just suck on it and you enjoy the flavour. But don't swallow." He then hands it to his friends to try.
One of them immediately reacts by saying, “I don't know why anybody would put this in their mouth." Karl laughs, while another friend continues chewing and responds with, “Minty."
Another one says, “That's not bad. I would actually use this as a breath mint."
The funniest reaction comes from a man in a black T-shirt, who makes a dramatic face and exclaims, “O..My.. God.. Only you can bring so many unknown flavours into my life." But just seconds later, he admits, “I'm sorry, not my thing." Karl, amused by all the different responses, laughs along with them.
Towards the end, Karl shows the packet to the camera and reveals, “This is Rajnigandha Pan Masala. And I don't know, exactly what they call it. But it's kind of a mouth freshener." Immediately, the first friend who had tasted it interrupts and says, “No. it is not. No. My mouth does not feel fresh after having that."

A user joked, “We got foreigners eating Rajnigandha before GTA 6."
Another wrote, “I think Karl will need new friends after all of these videos."
Someone else teased, “Next up, try gutka and let them paint the town red."
Not everyone found it light-hearted, though. A user warned, “It's NOT a mouth freshener.. It's tobacco mixed with other stuff… It'll give you ulcers and cancer in the long run if you get addicted my to mention red-stained teeth."
