Ferrari Cut Ties With Zhou Guanyu As 2026 F1 Hopes Fade
Ferrari have officially parted ways with Zhou Guanyu, bringing an end to the Chinese driver's stint as a reserve for the 2025 Formula 1 season ahead of the major regulation reset in 2026.
Zhou joined the Scuderia last year alongside Antonio Giovinazzi after losing his Sauber race seat at the end of 2024, marking a return to Maranello for a driver who was part of the Ferrari Driver Academy from 2014 to 2018.
On Friday, Ferrari confirmed the split with a brief statement on social media.

The move effectively shuts the door on Zhou's hopes of using his Ferrari link as a springboard back onto the F1 grid in 2026. The 26-year-old had been targeting a seat with the Cadillac F1 team, set to join the championship as the 11th team, but the American outfit instead opted for Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas.
That decision leaves Zhou without an F1 contract for next season — once again on the outside looking in.
While Zhou never truly set the paddock alight during his three seasons in Formula 1, he did score points in every year he raced and often outperformed expectations in machinery that frequently struggled for pace.
His consistency — and ability to occasionally match or beat Bottas — earned quiet respect within the paddock.
Still, opportunities never fully materialised. His F1 story is also closely tied to the controversial lack of promotion for Theo Pourchaire, the 2023 F2 champion, during Zhou's Sauber tenure.

For Ferrari, Zhou's presence brought value beyond the stopwatch, with sponsorship and commercial backing worth several million euros. But with 2026 looming, Maranello have chosen to move on.
The big question now: where does Zhou Guanyu go next? With Ferrari support gone and F1 seats filled, his future may lie beyond the pinnacle of motorsport — at least for now.
