Farhan Akhtar Breaks Silence On Don 3 Controversy Amid Ranveer Singh’s Exit: ‘Nothing Can Be Taken For Granted’
Ranveer Singh and Farhan Akhtar have been hitting headlines following a controversy that erupted after the Dhurandhar star walked away from Farhan’s upcoming film ‘Don 3’. Amid this, Farhan has finally reacted to it, and revealed what he learned from the setback. In a recent interview, he also stated that the project still holds creative importance for him, and that ‘Don 3’ remains an incredible story he is keen to bring to the screen, despite the delay.
In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, Akhtar said, “What I have learnt is to expect the unexpected. Nothing can be taken for granted till you actually have it on film." He added that his journey in films has been an incredible ride so far, and he understands that challenging phases are inevitable, and it’s something he chooses to take in his stride.
“Honestly, I also feel that from the time I began- from that moment that an Aamir, Akshaye, Preity, Dimple, Saif, Ritesh as my partner- till they come on and said yes ‘let’s make this film’- from that moment on, actually all the way pretty much through till 2022, which is 22-23 years, I have had the most incredible ride. It has just been working with the people that I want to work with, whether directing them or acting in films that I want to act in with directors. So it has been amazing. And you realize that at some point, there will be a period that’s going to come along that is going to be a little bit more challenging then. You’ve had it good. So it’s okay, you just take it in your stride," said Farhan.
“You’ve learnt a lot or at least inculcated a lot from the experiences of people who came before you. And you realize that it’s part and parcel of what you do. That there will be this moment that will come along that will be challenging creatively, existentially, where you are wondering like ‘Oh my God, do I still have what it takes?’ All those challenges do keep coming along. But I am very thankful for what brought me here. I have created enough relationships with people, worked with enough people who know what kind of person I am. What I bring to the table every single time I go in to work. And that’s what is going to see me through," he said.
Farhan Akhtar said he was able to process the situation much faster this time. He added that earlier setbacks, such as the response to Lakshya, had affected him deeply when things did not go as he had envisioned.
Despite the uncertainty, Don 3 remains close to him creatively. The actor-director said that it is one of the ‘incredible stories’ he wants to tell, hinting that the project is still in consideration, and not shelved.
Following Ranveer Singh’s exit from Don 3, Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment approached the Producers Guild of India, alleging that the actor’s last-minute departure led to losses of around ₹40 crore. In response, Singh reportedly accused the production house of “unprofessionalism," claiming that Akhtar had been prioritising other commitments over Don 3. It was further claimed that the actor was only re-approached following the success of Dhurandhar.
It was also reported that Aamir Khan had stepped in to resolve the conflict between Ranveer Singh and Farhan Akhtar. However, the actor later dismissed all such speculations. As per Bollywood Hungama, he ‘flatly denied any hand in the Ranveer-Farhan Akhtar dispute’.
