'Exploitation On Steroids': TCS Employee Rages After Getting Rs 422 Per Month Hike After 4 Years

Disputes over salary increases are nothing new, and many employees have turned to social media to voice their dissatisfaction. However, the internet was shocked when a Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) employee revealed that he got a meagre salary hike of Rs 422 per month after giving the company four years of his service, describing it as “exploitation on steroids".

The anonymous user took to Reddit to share that he had joined TCS in 2021 as part of a support project that was extremely toxic, or in his words, “straight-up nightmare fuel."

“Toxic doesn't even cover it – managers barked orders like rabid dogs, day in and day out. Zero learning, zero growth, just endless shouting and soul-crushing micromanagement. I still pray every day that karma catches up to those higher-ups and gives them a taste of their own medicine," he said.

He alleged that he was fired from the account after he pushed back against the toxic nature of the workplace, but not before insults were hurled at his face. He then started working on development projects for the last two years, which was better than grinding in support. However, the meagre salary hike hit him like a train, as he accused TCS of handing out “peanuts".

“In a world where IT pros are jumping ship for double or triple the salary elsewhere, TCS is handing out peanuts. This year – 2025 – my “raise"? A whopping 422 Rs per month. Yeah, you read that right. And it came 6 months late," he said. “We're talking about exploitation on steroids. We at the bottom do ALL the heavy lifting, coding through nights, fixing bugs under pressure – only to get slapped by managers who couldn't care less. Higher-ups treat us like disposable trash, while they rake in the big bucks."

He described his experience as a “wake-up call" for all techies who feel undervalued at their work in IT, and appealed to people to know their work and start upskilling and networking. “Do your research before signing on – don't make my mistakes!"

Netizens shared their outrage after listening to his experience. A user said, “I give any company 2 chances. If I get less than 12% hike both times, I switch. If I get less than 8% hike even once, I am certainly switching within 3 months."

“At this point, prolly more profitable to open a panipuri stall," another individual wrote. Another IT employee shared how they broke down over their pay in a call with their manager, who simply said that he could do nothing as that was a decision by the upper management.

The outrage prompted a response from TCS, which said, “We do not comment on individual cases; however, the facts do not appear to be properly represented by the anonymous user being quoted in this article."

“TCS had announced increments for its workforce effective September 1st, and we are pleased that this has reflected in a compensation revision for over 80% of our workforce. The average hike was between 4.5% – 7%, with high performers being given double-digit increments," the company added in a statement.
