Tamil Nadu: Expelled AIADMK leader joins actor Vijay’s TVK ahead of Assembly polls

Former AIADMK leader KA Sengottaiyan on Thursday joined actor Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, a day after resigning as the Gobichettipalayam MLA, The Hindu reported.
Sengottaiyan, who had been with the AIADMK for nearly 50 years, was removed from the party on October 31 following internal differences.
In September, he publicly urged AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami to consider reinstating expelled leaders, including O Panneerselvam, TTV Dhinakaran and VK Sasikala, arguing that wider reconciliation would strengthen the organisation, The Indian Express reported.
He was relieved of his responsibilities in the organisation at the time and later expelled for violating party discipline.
On Thursday, the nine-time MLA was appointed as the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam's secretary for four districts, Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruppur and the Nilgiris, The Hindu reported.
First elected to the Assembly in 1977 when MG Ramachandran was the chief minister, Sengottaiyan went on to serve in several roles in the AIADMK and was a minister in the Cabinets of Jayalalithaa and Palaniswami.
Sengottaiyan's move to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam came ahead of the Assembly elections, which are expected to take place in the first half of 2026.
Vijay said Sengottaiyan's political experience and field work would be of great help to his party.
“I welcome him, and the others who have joined our party along with him, to work for the people,” Vijay said in a video posted on social media.
