Ex Infosys Employee Reveals How Moving To Germany Changed His Life: ‘Nobody Cared About My Well-Being, Family’
Many young professionals today openly discuss the pressure they face at work and how it impacts their lives beyond the office. Increasingly, people are sharing honest experiences online, comparing work cultures across countries and noticing significant differences. These stories often emphasise the importance of feeling valued, rested, and respected in the workplace.
One such story gaining attention is from an Indian software engineer who moved to Germany and shared the striking contrast he experienced in his daily life.
Engineer Opens Up About Harsh Work Culture in India
The post was shared by Kaustav Banerjee, who said he graduated in 2013. He explained that when he started working, he had no idea what “work-life balance" even meant. According to him, long hours and nonstop pressure were seen as normal. He wrote, “It's very common in Indian workplaces to burn yourself out and give 200 per cent. That is the expectation and that is what everyone does."
He described a workplace where falling behind could affect your whole career. He added that well-being was never a priority. “Nobody cares about your well-being, your health. Your family is not even in the picture!!" he said, pointing out how personal life often took a back seat.
One of the points he stressed the most was about leave and holidays. He said paid leave existed only on paper to meet rules. “Applying for vacation feels like the biggest challenge in your life," he wrote. He said working weekends, not getting compensatory time off, and rushing to meet deadlines were common and expected.
Shares How Moving to Germany Changed Everything
Kaustav then spoke about how his life changed after moving to Germany. He said he was surprised to see a workplace where his time and health were valued. “This all changed after I moved to Germany, I saw a better culture at the workplace, and I cannot even start to praise the numerous good things," he wrote on Instagram.
He also mentioned that he would soon share a detailed video about the positive changes he experienced.

Someone else joked, “I've lost count of how many times I've had to ‘kill' my grandparents… just to get leave that's rightfully mine as part of my CTC."
