Ex-India Captain Warns Mohsin Naqvi: 'Find An Excuse And Don't Come To T20 WC'
Former India captain K Srikkanth has advised Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi to ‘find an excuse' and avoid playing in the 2026 T20 World Cup, or his team would be ‘thrashed' by Suryakumar Yadav's men. He said sixes hit by the Indian boys in Colombo ‘will land in Madras'.
Srikkanth was speaking after India's stellar win by eight wickets against New Zealand in Guwahati to seal the series 3-0. They kept Mitchell Santner's men down to a sub-par 153 and chased it down in ten overs.
Despite playing against a full-strength Kiwi side, India have hardly needed to break a sweat in the series, winning the first match by 48 runs and the second by seven wickets (chasing 209 in 15.2 overs). This was their 11th straight series win — a record previously managed by only, interestingly, Pakistan.
“In the last match, India scored 209 in 15 overs," Srikkanth said in a video on his YouTube channel. “In this match, they scored 150 in 10 overs. Seeing this, many teams might say, ‘No, we are not coming. You can keep the cup'. Hey Pakistan, don't come. Your man Mohsin Naqvi has been talking about it — don't come. You will be thrashed. A six hit in Colombo will land in Madras. Beware. The best option is to stay away. Find an excuse and don't come. These boys will thrash them hard. This will send an alarming signal to every cricket team in the world. This kind of hitting in T20 cricket, I have never seen anything like it," he said.
There's genuine doubt over Pakistan's participation in the T20 World Cup. Naqvi announced recently that the PCB is awaiting Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's permission, and though the team has confirmed its traveling squad, this supposed ‘permission' hasn't arrived yet.
ICC officials, meanwhile, have given off-the-record comments to Indian media saying that if Pakistan pull out of the tournament, it'll be hit with severe sanctions. The World Cup starts on February 7.
