‘Worst Experience’: Indian Travel Vlogger Says Follower Invited Him To Stay In Europe, Then Asked For Money
An Indian travel vlogger has shared what he called one of the “worst" experiences from his Europe trip after a follower who invited him to stay at his home in Munich allegedly later demanded rent money and sent threatening messages. Travel creator Gautam Sachdeva spoke about the incident in an Instagram video, where he advised solo travellers to avoid staying at strangers’ homes.
Sachdeva said the incident happened during his Europe travels when he was in Berlin and planning a trip to Prague. According to him, a follower reached out and suggested that he visit Munich instead and stay at his place. The content creator said he agreed because he also wanted to explore Austria during the journey.
In the video, Sachdeva explained that things felt awkward from the moment he arrived at the follower’s house late at night. “Usne na hi mujhse paani poocha, khaana toh door ki baat hai," he said, claiming the host neither offered him water nor food.
He further said that he spent most of his time outside sightseeing in Munich and only returned to the house to sleep.
According to Sachdeva, the situation became worse after he decided to stay one extra night because he was suffering from severe foot pain and could barely walk after travelling around the city.
The creator claimed that while he was leaving early in the morning to catch his train, the follower stopped him and suddenly asked him to pay 30 euros, which is around Rs 3,346, as rent. “He said if you had stayed in a hostel, you would have paid there too," Sachdeva recalled in the clip.
Sachdeva said he refused to pay because the stay had been offered as an invitation and not as paid accommodation. He further alleged that after he left, the man sent him messages accusing him of using coffee, the internet and the room without contributing money.
According to the creator, the messages later became threatening in tone. In the caption of the Instagram post, Sachdeva warned solo travellers against staying with unknown people during trips.
“Always get your own stay be it a hotel room or a hostel bed. Never stay at anyone’s place. Yes you want experiences, get experiences but not of staying at a unknown’s. Meri life ki solo travel ki first learning!" he wrote.
In another comment, the travel creator clarified that he had not randomly asked someone for accommodation. He said the follower had been interacting with him online for over two years.
“Some people here clearly don’t understand the difference between an invitation or going to someone uninvited and asking them to let you stay! If you invite someone that person is your guest and you show hospitality," he commented.
“The guy used to wish me luck in my comment section, was following my journey for over 2 years toh aise hi koi random nhi tha," he added.

The video sparked mixed reactions online, with many users sharing their own travel experiences.
“Basic life lesson: Nothing in the world is free," a user wrote. Another commented, “Never trust an Indian abroad."
“Europe me indians hi indians ko use karte hai, mera experience aisa hi raha hai 4 years ka. apko sachaai ab pata chali," another person said.
A user also wrote, “We live in Europe and we never do that to anyone. It’s not about the place but about the mindset of the people. Expose that person." Someone commented, “Saala bahut tuccha aadmi tha."
“You should hv given him what he was expecting on the side! Coffee, breakfast, dinner sab karwata after that, haha," a comment read.
