Trump calls US 'hottest country in the world'; claims 'there is no other country even close'
At the United Nations General Assembly, President Trump delivered a grievance-filled address, asserting the United States' dominance and criticizing the UN's ineffectiveness. He targeted various nations' policies, including those of the UK, Germany, Greece, Switzerland, and Brazil, while dismissing climate change initiatives.
US President Donald Trump repeated one of his signature claims at the United Nations General Assembly Tuesday, saying, “We are the hottest country anywhere in the world and there is no other country even close.”
He later posted the statement on Truth Social, which was one of many claims he made during his hour-long speech at the UNGA.Trump launched into a grievance-laden address that targeted the UN, other nations, and global institutions, expressing frustration at what he called the world body's inaction during his past diplomatic efforts. He recalled, “I ended seven wars, dealt with the leaders of each and every one of these countries, and never even received a phone call from the United Nations offering to help in finalizing the deal.”
The US president also referenced minor incidents during his visits, including a broken escalator as First Lady Melania Trump stepped onto it and a malfunctioning teleprompter, as symbolic of what he described as the UN's inefficiency.
UN and world leaders under fire
Trump's address was sharply critical of other countries' policies.He faulted the UK and Germany for green-energy strategies, Greece and Switzerland for accepting immigrants, and Brazil for censorship and repression, warning, “Your countries are going to hell.”
Further, he dismissed climate-change initiatives, calling global efforts “the greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world.”
Immigration and border control dominated his speech, which Trump framed as a protective, humanitarian measure.
“The UN is supposed to stop invasions, not create them, and not finance them,” he said, accusing the organization of “funding an assault on western countries and their borders.” The US President highlighted his strict visa policies, barring Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas from attending the UNGA and imposing new limits on Iranian diplomats.
Trump also mixed in moments of humor and self-praise, noting his campaign hat reading “Trump was right about everything” and asserting, “I don't say that in a braggadocious way, but it's true — I've been right about everything.”
He described a brief encounter with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva: “At least for about 39 seconds we had excellent chemistry, it's a good sign.”
