TCS, Infosys Issue Travel Advisories After Middle East Escalation; Details Here
In an internal advisory, Tata Consultancy Services instructs employees to avoid stepping out and defer non-essential travel.
Top Indian IT firms, including Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Infosys, have issued travel advisories to employees and urged caution after tensions escalated in the Middle East following US and Israeli strikes on Iran over the weekend that reportedly killed its Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Both companies, which maintain significant operations across the region, acted after hostilities intensified and Iran launched missiles targeting key locations in the Middle East, including Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
TCS asks staff to limit movement
In an internal advisory, Tata Consultancy Services instructed employees to avoid stepping out and defer non-essential travel.
“In light of the ongoing geopolitical developments in the Middle East, all our associates have been advised to stay indoors, avoid non-essential travel, and strictly follow guidance issued by local authorities,” the internal document accessed by Livemint read.
The company has also halted employee travel linked to the region.
“TCS has suspended all incoming and outgoing travel to and from the Middle East region, including transit, as airspace across several countries remains closed,” as per the advisory.
TCS employs about 9,000 people across the Middle East and Africa, according to its website. The firm said its leadership teams are in touch with staff across locations.
“HR and country leadership teams are actively connected with our associates and their families across locations and are closely monitoring their safety and well-being. A call tree has been activated, and associates in impacted and bordering regions are being contacted on priority,” it said.
The company added that it is coordinating with Indian diplomatic missions and local authorities.
“We are also coordinating closely with local authorities and the Indian Embassies to track developments and will continue to provide timely updates as the situation evolves. The safety and well-being of our associates and their families remain our highest priority,” it said.
Infosys flags disruptions
Infosys has issued a similar advisory to its workforce, The Economic Times reported, citing disruptions caused by airspace restrictions and widespread flight cancellations.
“The safety and well-being of our employees remain our top priority. We are closely monitoring the situation and will share further updates as required,” Infosys reportedly said in an internal communication.
Employees scheduled to travel within 48 hours have been asked to check flight status with airlines and postpone trips where possible. Staff stranded in transit have been advised to remain calm and follow airline instructions.
An enquiry sent to Infosys did not receive a response at the time of publication. The report will be updated if an official statement is issued.
According to flight-tracking platform FlightAware, more than 2,700 flights were cancelled globally and over 12,300 delayed as of 1720 GMT Sunday.
