Robert Redford dies at 89: What was his cause of death and net worth?
Former Hollywood golden boy Robert Redford, who starred in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, passed away at the age of 89.
In a statement, Cindi Berger, CEO of the public relations agency Rogers & Cowan PMK, announced the actor and Oscar-winning director's passing. Although she did not specify the cause of his death, the New York Times claimed that Redford passed away while sleeping in the highlands outside of Provo.
With his dazzling grin, sandy blonde hair, and romantic performances opposite Jane Fonda and Barbara Streisand, Redford earned a reputation as a sex icon and a recognized actor across the world during his heyday in the 1960s and 1970s.
Born in 1936 in Santa Monica, California, he relocated to New York in the 1950s with the intention of becoming a painter, but he was more interested in acting. His big-screen debut came in 1967 when he played a newlywed alongside Fonda in the romantic comedy Barefoot in the Park.
Redford produced almost 50 films in a six-decade career. He claimed that his two favorite works were The Sting (1973) and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969), both of which he co-wrote with Paul Newman.
Redford played the Sundance Kid in the former, which later went on to become his most well-known character, when he was 32 years old.
It was four years later that Redford portrayed a conman in The Sting. Unexpectedly, it led to his first-ever Oscar nomination.
He was named an Academy Honorary Award winner in 2002 for his work as a “actor, director, producer, creator of Sundance, inspiration to independent and innovative filmmakers everywhere.”

Redford was able to purchase property at Timp Haven, a Utah ski resort, with his Hollywood money. He dubbed it Sundance in honor of his movie character. He then founded the Sundance Film Festival, which honors independent cinema.
In addition, he established Sundance Cinemas, Sundance Catalog, Sundance Institute, and Sundance Channel.
In 2018, Redford made the announcement that he will be retiring from acting after the release of his last movie, The Old Man and the Gun.
His net worth is estimated to be around $200 million, as per Celebrity Net Worth.
