Rapido Rider Faces Difficulty As Phone Shuts Down In Extreme Heat: ‘Man Is Risking Heatstroke’
Working long hours in extreme heat can be difficult, especially for delivery riders who depend on their phones for every task. One such incident has highlighted how these conditions can directly affect their ability to work and earn.
The situation has also raised questions about how much support gig workers receive while dealing with tough weather and low pay. Many people are now talking about the challenges faced by delivery partners on a daily basis.
Rider Shows How Heat Stopped His Work Mid-Shift
A video shared by an X user shows a Rapido rider struggling to continue his work because of the heat. In the clip, the rider explains that his phone stopped working due to overheating.
“My entire phone hung up, nothing is working… the phone overheated to the point of it lagging terribly, and I can’t even receive the customer’s call," he said.
Since delivery work depends completely on the phone, the issue meant he could not take calls or complete orders. Without a working device, his shift was forced to stop.
He also spoke about the daily struggles riders face in such weather. “We work in overbearing heat and our devices stop working, and we still don’t get paid enough for it," he added.
Post Highlights Low Pay And Daily Risks
In the caption, the X user pointed out that many delivery workers continue to work even when temperatures cross 40°C. Despite these conditions, some rides pay as little as Rs 20-30.
He also raised another concern, damage to personal phones. Since riders use their own devices, overheating can affect their work and also lead to repair costs. For many, the phone is their only way to earn.
People React To Working Conditions Of Riders
The video led to many reactions online, with users sharing their views on the situation. A person wrote, “Convenience is built on someone else’s discomfort."
Another said, “Facts. People see fast delivery, not the heat and pressure behind it. If prices surge, safety incentives should too."
Some users shared personal thoughts. “Personally, during summer, I order a cold nimboos everytime for the delivery partner along with my order to give them as a gift – but I will also argue here every profession has its ups and downs. Working in tech for 22yrs gave me hypertension and type 2 diabetic should I complain?," a comment read.
Others called for better pay. “Yaar this hit hard. A man is risking heatstroke and a dead phone for Rs 30 so I can get my order in 20 minutes. The least platforms can do is pay extra during a heatwave. Sign every petition that demands this," a user wrote.
A comment also said, “They deserve hazard pay at minimum, honestly wild that we have normalised someone literally melting for the price of a cup of chai."
While we complain about delays, delivery partners are working in 41°C heat, where even their smartphones are giving up due to overheating.When the phone stops working, their work stops, but the pressure from customers and platforms continues relentlessly.

Another added, “Like Rain, there should be a Heatwave surge between 11-4pm. But it should not be TIPPING…"
Some pointed out that others face similar struggles too. “Not just delivery partners, maids, cooks, security guards etc are also working under such extreme weather… even their health matters."
