UPI payments in India have become ubiquitous, recording transitions in big crores every month. But this popularity has made it an obvious target for scammers who prey on innocent victims and coax them into sending money or exposing their confidential bank details to steal money.

The support for changing UPI ID has been asked by many users and it is gradually coming to the popular UPI-compatible apps available in the country. We got the new update on Paytm where changing the UPI ID is quite easy and we assume the process will be the same across all the UPI apps.
Personalising the UPI ID is a definite helpful addition for millions of UPI users who don't have to share their mobile number which has mostly been linked to the UPI ID that has become a privacy concern for many.
In addition to this, UPI payments through these apps will become less scary because Paytm, Google Pay and PhonePe among others have been ordered to stop letting payment requests go through any of these UPI apps from October 2 onwards in the country.
