'Not drama, need delivery': PM Modi’s message to Opposition before Parliament Winter Session
Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged political parties to prioritise delivery over disruption during the Winter Session of Parliament. He stressed the need for responsibility, balance, and a focus on national progress rather than reacting to electoral defeats. Modi emphasised that parliamentary conduct should be driven by policies and outcomes, not slogans or drama.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday delivered a clear message as the Winter Session of Parliament began, urging all political parties to prioritise delivery over disruption and to approach the session with responsibility and balance.
Addressing the media before the session, Modi said, “I urge all parties, in this Winter Session, that the panic of defeat should not become a ground for debate. As public representatives, we should handle the responsibility and expectations of the people of the country with utmost balance and responsibility, while thinking about the future.”
He stressed that Parliament must function with purpose and seriousness. “This session should focus on what this Parliament thinks about the country, what it wants to do for the country. The focus should be on these issues. The Opposition should also fulfil its responsibility. They should raise such issues, strong issues. They should overcome the disappointment of defeat.”
In a pointed reference to political reactions after the Bihar election results, Modi remarked, “Unfortunately, there are some parties that are unable to digest the defeat. And I was thinking that since so much time has passed since the Bihar results came, they might have calmed down a bit. But from what I heard yesterday, it seems that defeat has troubled them…”
‘Drama nahi, delivery honi chahiye'
The Prime Minister underlined that results, not theatrics, should define parliamentary conduct. Sending a sharp warning to the Opposition, Modi said, “Drama nahi, delivery honi chahiye”, meaning Parliament should focus on performance and outcomes, not unnecessary drama. Modi reflected on India's democratic journey and how public participation has strengthened it. He said, “India has lived democracy. The excitement people show strengthens our belief in it. The voter turnout in Bihar reflects the power of democracy, and women's participation gives us hope.”He added that India doesn't just adopt democracy as a system but celebrates it as part of its identity. According to Modi, “India celebrate democracy like no other country.”
The Prime Minister further stated that India has shown the world that democracy is capable of delivering. “India has proved that democracy can deliver,” he said, highlighting public welfare schemes and development initiatives.
What to expect this Winter Session
The Winter Session is scheduled from 1 December to 19 December, with 15 sittings expected. Several key legislative matters and policy discussions are likely to be taken up, including debates related to governance, economy, public welfare, and international trade issues such as rising US tariffs.Modi urged Members of Parliament to ensure meaningful dialogue and cooperation throughout the session, calling upon all parties to contribute constructively for the progress of the nation.
