A woman from Raipur has been reported missing in flood-hit Nepal, officials said on Thursday.
Monika Yadav, a resident of Mahadev Ghat area here, had travelled to Nepal on August 22. Her family lost contact with her afterwards.
Efforts were underway in coordination with central agencies to locate her and ensure her safe return, officials said.

The Rajasthan government has temporarily suspended the pilgrimage to the Pashupatinath temple in Kathmandu under its Senior Citizen Pilgrimage Scheme in view of the massive flash floods in Nepal, an official said.
On the direction of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, the air journey to Kathmandu has been suspended until August 31, keeping in mind the safety of the elderly pilgrims, Devasthan Minister Joraram Kumawat said.
“The safety and health of senior citizens is the priority for the state government. The tragedy in Nepal has badly affected the infrastructure there. Therefore, the pilgrimage has been temporarily suspended so that the elderly pilgrims do not face any inconvenience or danger,” the Minister said.

A 45-year-old software engineer from Karnataka, who has been living in Australia for the past 10 years, is among a group of people reported missing after flash floods in Nepal, his family said on Thursday.
Rakesh Nayak had recently travelled to Mansarovar on a package tour organised by the Isha Foundation, they said.
At least 13 people from Karnataka, 11 of them from Bengaluru Urban district, are stranded in Nepal and the Tibet Autonomous Region, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s office said on Thursday.

Sri Lanka on Thursday announced a humanitarian aid of $1 million to flood-hit Nepal.
“In a demonstration of Sri Lanka’s solidarity with the people of Nepal following the devastating floods and landslides that have caused loss of life, displacement and widespread destruction, His Excellency President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has directed the Government to provide a financial contribution of US$ 1 million to Nepal to support its ongoing humanitarian and relief efforts,” reads the press release from the Sri Lankan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“The President expressed his deep sorrow at the tragic loss of lives and the suffering caused by the disaster, and conveyed the heartfelt condolences of the Government and people of Sri Lanka to the Government and people of Nepal, particularly to the families who have lost their loved ones,” it further reads.
A day after a flash flood killed hundreds in Nepal and threatened to overflow into neighboring Bihar, the risk of flooding in the Gandak, Ganga, and other tributary rivers subsided significantly on Thursday. However, debris and cattle carcasses were seen in the Gandak, which is called the Narayani river on the Nepal side of the border.
Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, accompanied by top government officials, conducted an aerial survey of the Valmikingar barrage areas of West Champaran district along the Indo-Nepal border, which had faced an imminent threat till Thursday (August 27, 2026).

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed on Thursday (August 27, 2026) that a group of 32 people from West Bengal who travelled for the Kailash-Mansarovar Yatra remain untraceable following the devastating flash floods in Nepal.
Among the 32, at least 21 are senior citizens, and many others are in their late 50s. Sharmistha Bhowmik Roy, the daughter-in-law of the deceased politician Mukul Roy, is also part of the group, along with two tour operators.

The Delhi Government has temporarily put on hold the “Indo-Nepal Maitri Bus Sewa” for the next two days as a preventive measure due to massive flash floods, an official order said on Thursday (August 27, 2026).
According to officials, road transportation has been completely shut on the National Highway, Delhi-Kathmandu Route in Nepal, at present after the massive flash floods.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday (August 27, 2026) said his government was in touch with the people from the state stranded in Nepal following flash floods and was working with the Centre to bring them back.

A group of 12 people from six families in Rattihalli, Haveri district, who are stranded in Pokhara, Nepal, after the flash floods, have sent a video message to convey that they are safe.
In the video clip, two of them spoke about how they were proceeding to Kathmandu from Pokhara when they were informed by locals about the flash floods, which forced them to return to Pokhara.
“As it is difficult for us to return due to severed highway connectivity, we will stay in Pokhara for two days and then return to India,” they said in the video clip.

The Arunachal Pradesh government on Thursday (August 27, 2026) directed all Deputy Commissioners to submit details of persons from their respective districts who may have travelled to Nepal and gone missing in the devastating flash flood there.

More than 150 people are dead and hundreds more missing after an enormous wave of water, ice, mud and rock cascaded more than 170 kilometres down the Bhote Koshi River valley in Nepal. The valley is the main link between Kathmandu in Nepal and Lhasa in Tibet. At least 34 Australians are missing. There was little warning.
Footage of the debris-laden flash flood is shocking. It is, unfortunately, not surprising.
As an expert in glaciers, I have tracked their accelerating retreat around the world as they melt – and the disasters that can follow. Early analysis suggests the abrupt collapse of a glacier triggered the disaster.
As climate change intensifies, glaciers worldwide are melting – even in high regions such as the Himalayas. The Himalayas are especially vulnerable, because the steep slopes of many of these very tall mountains are made of permafrost – rock and soil frozen for centuries. As temperatures rise, these slopes are beginning to melt or destabilise. If an earthquake or slope failure occurs, it can trigger a sudden and devastating debris flow.
It’s too early to say this was the exact cause. But we know that the great ice stores of the Himalayas – known as the world’s “third pole“ because it contains the largest amount of snow and ice after the Arctic and Antarctic – are no longer safe.
AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday urged the union government to assist those affected by the devastating floods in Nepal. He also emphasised the need for national unity during the crisis.
Expressing profound grief over the loss of lives, the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha said he would write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard.
“A major tragedy has occurred in Nepal... a number of Indians have lost their lives in the tragedy. Hundreds of people who had gone on pilgrimage or as tourists have lost their lives. The incident has caused grief to all of us. We should all be together during this time of distress,” Mr. Kharge said.

India is making “urgent efforts” to ascertain the status and well-being of Indians stuck in flood-hit areas of Nepal, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said on Thursday.
Mr. Jaishankar said this after holding a high-level meeting, which was also joined virtually by Indian envoys in Kathmandu and Beijing.

“Urgent efforts are underway to ascertain the status and well-being of all Indians in the flood-affected areas,” he said.
The External Affairs Minister said his Ministry is coordinating with various Ministries, State governments, tour operators and other relevant authorities.

Nearly 100 Chinese nationals are missing in Nepal after deadly flooding at the border region, Beijing’s foreign ministry said on Thursday, as at least 1,300 remain people remain unaccounted for.
“In the disaster-stricken area on the Nepalese side, the number of Chinese citizens missing is nearly 100,” ministry spokesman Lin Jian told reporters.
The Chinese embassy was “seeking further verification” from Nepali authorities, he added.

The disaster management authority in Meghalaya on Thursday urged people to provide information about those who may be uncontactable, following flash floods in Nepal, and opened a helpline number for families and others to report details of the missing persons.
The flash floods occurred on Wednesday in Nepal, causing extensive damage to villages, roads, bridges and other infrastructure, with several people reported missing.
The State Disaster Management Authority said it was seeking information on any person from Meghalaya who may have been in the affected area or whose whereabouts could not be confirmed following the disaster.
Family members, relatives, friends, travel agencies, tour operators and members of the public with information about such persons have been urged to contact the authorities.
A dedicated helpline 6009924512 has been made available for the purpose. People can also contact 112/1070 for emergencies and CM Connect at 1971, the SDMA said.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. There has been no adverse flood impact reported in Indian border territories following the flash floods in Nepal, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Inspector General Narendra Singh Bundela said, adding that agencies are closely monitoring water discharge levels across sensitive districts such as Kushinagar and West Champaran.
Speaking to ANI on domestic preparedness, IG Bundela stated that State governments and the Central Water Commission (CWC) are maintaining continuous vigil and field-level sensitisation has been completed.
Regarding India’s disaster assistance to neighbouring Nepal, the NDRF official highlighted that large-scale relief supplies have already been delivered via two Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft, while four specialised rescue teams have been kept on reserve in Ghaziabad for rapid deployment if requested.

The Nepal Tourism Board on Thursday (August 27, 2026) released an updated list of missing persons since the massive flash flood swept through the country.
Among the missing are 178 from India, 65 from the United States, 53 from Ukraine, 51 from Malaysia, 35 from Australia, 33 from Britain and 25 from Canada. In addition, there are nine from Singapore, eight from Germany and eight from Russia.
Earlier, Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal said nearly 300 Indian tourists are among thousands who are reportedly missing in the flash floods.
Nearly 80 tourists from Maharashtra are estimated to be stranded in flood-hit Nepal, with the figure likely to be revised as information was still being collected, officials said on Thursday.
Of these, 57 persons went through a tour agency, while the remaining were travelling independently, according to a report issued by the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) in the morning.
Four citizens have so far been reported safe.

The discharge from the Gandak Barrage at Valmikinagar in West Champaran, the northernmost district of the state that shares a border with the neighbouring country, also declined with the receding water level in the river system, they said.
Bihar was put on high alert on Wednesday as floodwaters from Nepal entered the Gandak river and reached the barrage, prompting the authorities concerned to open all 36 gates to control the surge.
The water discharge from Valmikinagar barrage declined from 1.50 lakh cusecs at 11 pm on Wednesday to 1.04 lakh cusecs on Thursday morning.

New Delhi on Wednesday dispatched 10 tonnes of HADR (Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief) materials to the neighbouring country.
“A second flight has just taken off, carrying 37.5 tonnes of HADR material, medicines & food packets for Nepal,” External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said on social media.
“India remains in close and continuous touch with the Nepalese authorities.We will continue to strongly support the ongoing relief efforts,” he said.

The Karnataka government has sought information on people from the state who are currently stranded in Nepal and the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) following severe flash floods and related disruptions along the border there and adjoining areas.
The Revenue Department’s Secretariat of Disaster Management, in a post on ‘X’, said it was collecting details of those stranded to facilitate coordination of rescue, evacuation and other necessary assistance.
Stranded persons, relatives and tour operators are requested to provide details through the Google Form, it said.
The information will help the state government coordinate with the Ministry of External Affairs, the Embassy of India in Nepal and the Embassy of India in Beijing, it said.

Nepal Police on Thursday said that the death toll rose to 165 in the flash floods on the Bhotekoshi River after three more bodies were recovered from Nawalparasi West that wreaked havoc across three districts on Wednesday.
In Rasuwa, two persons were killed, in Nuakot 12, in Dhading 27, in Chitawan 64, in Gorkha 20, in Tanhu nine, in Nawalparasi East 26 and in Nawalparasi West five, taking the total toll to 165.

Nepal on Thursday said that more than 800 people, including nearly 580 tourists, were missing in the massive flash floods that swept through the country, leaving 165 dead.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) in a statement said that 826 people have been out of contact since the devastating flood swept through parts of the Nepal-Tibet border on Wednesday.
According to the NDRRMA data, those missing include 85 armed forces personnel, 162 staff members working at various hydropower and customs offices and 579 tourists.

A day after catastrophic floods hit Nepal, killing more than 160 people so far, and leaving hundreds missing, the Kerala government said it had received around 17 distress calls from families of Keralites affected by the disaster. Based on the initial calls, around 25-30 tourists from Kerala are estimated to be stranded in the flood-hit region.
There were also unconfirmed reports that another group of 36 tourists from Kerala, including a former police officer from Kanhangad, was trapped in the affected region. Speaking to ‘The Hindu’, Rajesh Madhavan, Chief Executive Officer of NoRKA-Roots, the official agency for non-resident Keralites under the Government of Keralam, said the number of stranded tourists could rise, given the tourist flow to Nepal during the vacation season.
“We estimated that up to 30 people from Kerala were stranded in the region based on calls received at various help desks, including those of NoRKA-Roots and the Chief Minister’s Office. We have compiled the data and handed it over to the NRK Development Officer in Delhi, who has been assigned to coordinate relief and assistance activities,” he said.

Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Thursday (August 27, 2026) conducted the aerial survey in view of the floods in Nepal.
“A survey of the flood situation was conducted in Bihar’s border areas of Bagaha, Valmiki Nagar, Bettiah, and Motihari” Mr. Choudhary said in the social media post on X.
He added that a review was conducted of administrative preparations regarding potential impacts, necessary precautionary measures, safety, and relief-rescue operations, and instructions were given to the concerned officials to take all necessary steps with complete readiness.
Mr. Choudhary asserted that ensuring the safety of citizens in flood-affected areas and providing every possible assistance is our utmost priority.

The Nepal flash floods were triggered by a glacial collapse and not by a 4.4 magnitude earthquake as reported earlier, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.
The USGS said additional analysis of the long-period seismic waves indicated that the tremors were generated by a glacial collapse and debris flow.
The flash floods originating in Tibet on Wednesday left a trail of death and destruction in Rasuwa and Dhading districts of Nepal, killing 162 people and leaving 750, including 133 Indian nationals, missing.
“This event was initially reported as a magnitude 4.4 earthquake. Additional analysis of nearby seismic stations, long period seismic waves, and satellite imagery led to the determination that the seismic event was instead a glacial collapse and debris flow, and that no earthquake had occurred,” the USGS said in an update to its note on the event.
It also upgraded the magnitude of the seismic event to 5.2 from the 4.4 assessed earlier.
“The USGS determined that the seismic event was a glacial collapse and debris flow that caused subsequent catastrophic impacts downstream,” it said.

Nepal’s disaster agency said that 823 people remained out of contact on Thursday, more than 24 hours after a deadly flood tore through the border region with Tibet.
The 823 includes at least 579 tourists, both Nepali and foreigners, it said in an update. At least 165 people are confirmed killed, in both Nepal and in China, where a further 558 people are reported missing.

A 32-member group from Kolkata on the Kailash-Mansarovar Yatra was among many from West Bengal, who went untraceable after the flash floods in Nepal, an official said.
The group, comprising 30 tourists and two tour managers, left the city on August 21 and reached Nepal the following day, he said.

The agency said seismic activity initially reported as an earthquake “was instead a glacial collapse and debris flow” that “caused subsequent catastrophic impacts downstream”.
The cause of the disaster was not immediately clear in the hours after it occurred early on Wednesday, but Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal had said an earthquake likely triggered a landslide, in turn blocking a river and sending water gushing downstream.
