India’s anti-narcotics agencies have made a landmark breakthrough after seizing the country’s first-ever consignment of Captagon, a highly controversial amphetamine-based drug often referred to as the “Jihadi drug" in an operation that has gone viral online.
The development gained traction after a post shared on the Reddit community r/IndianDefence highlighted the major drug bust. The post, titled, “Through ‘Operation RAGEPILL’, agencies have achieved the first-ever seizure of Captagon, the so-called ‘Jihadi Drug’, worth Rs 182 crore," quickly sparked debate among users.
The viral Reddit post featured a screenshot of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement shared on X, where he praised the agencies involved in the operation and reiterated the government’s commitment towards eliminating narcotics trafficking.
Announcing the breakthrough on Saturday, Shah stated that the Narendra Modi-led government remains committed to building a “Drug-Free India".
“Glad to share that through ‘Operation RAGEPILL’, our agencies have achieved the first-ever seizure of Captagon, the so-called ‘Jihadi Drug’, worth Rs 182 crore. The busting of the drug consignment destined for the Middle East and the arrest of a foreign national stand out as shining examples of our commitment to zero tolerance against drugs," Shah wrote.
Praising the efforts of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), he further added, “I repeat, we will clamp down on every gram of drugs entering India or leaving the country using our territory as the transit route. Kudos to the brave and vigilant warriors of the NCB."
The announcement soon triggered a wave of reactions online, particularly on Reddit, where users discussed both the scale of the seizure and the broader issue of drug trafficking in India.
A user raised concerns over narcotics smuggling in northern India, writing, “Take some actions on the drug trade from Pakistan to Punjab. Thats something going on since decades with no resolution and probably people from all political parties including bjp are involved in the trade at this point."
“Can we make some use of this? 182 crore is a lot," another user remarked.
“Excellent work by our agencies against the rising threat of narco terrorism," said another.
Users on X also reacted strongly to Shah’s announcement, with many applauding the agencies involved, while others stressed the need for deeper structural reforms to curb drug abuse.
“Drug free India used to be a dream in the previous governments, which today seems to be becoming a reality under the Modi government and in your leadership under HMO," one user wrote.
Another highlighted concerns around substance abuse among students, saying, “Should focus more on the colleges I would say.. The kind of exposure that some kids are getting , Its scary. a clg student died at 23 years because of drugs.. A senior as well died it seems. All this happened long back , not sure how scary the situation might be now."

A third user pointed out that repeated drug seizures also indicate the continued strength of trafficking networks. “Drug seizures are a good thing, but real success will be when drugs stop reaching the market in the first place. Every few months there is another ‘biggest bust’, which also shows that the network is still very active," the comment read.
