Microsoft Is Finally Letting You Remove Copilot On Windows 11 PCs: How It Works
Microsoft is making it possible to remove Copilot from the Windows 11 PCs and not just disable the AI assistant anymore. Many users have been seeking the option to stop using Copilot altogether since most of them rely on either Gemini or ChatGPT AI tools for their use.
Copilot has been Microsoft's default AI feature that the company has even pitched as the branding for AI PCs in the market but its overall popularity is not very high which makes it easy for people to forget about its existence.
The company has not made it easy for people to upgrade from Windows 10 to the Windows 11 version and it mostly wants them to buy new machines rather than sign up for the free Windows 11 update (not available anymore).
Remove Copilot But It Is Not Easy
The option to not disable but remove Copilot has been spotted in the latest Windows 11 beta version but the company is not making it easy to get rid of its AI component. The option is being offered for people using a managed PC which could be linked to your work profile and has an IT admin having the control to remotely access the aspects of the device.
Does this mean that regular Windows 11 users cannot make use of the removal option, the beta version is mostly linked to enterprise, Pro, and education segment PC models, so it is unlikely that many will be able to reprieve from Copilot AI anytime soon.
In addition to the limited scope to remove Copilot, the company is also putting a strange demand that should be met before you can even uninstall the app. Reports say Microsoft wants to make sure the app has not been launched/opened for at least 28 days which can be a challenge, especially since many see Copilot turn on by default during their logins.

AI PCs are definitely the future for the companies in the space but some of them feel people are tired by the relentless push for the features.
Dell has said that people are not buying PCs because they have AI but happy to upgrade for the features which are yet to truly make a difference for many. It is an interesting turn of events for the industry which many believed will keep the AI candle burning, at least for a few years. But the Microsoft Copilot pitch has been too loud without making a real difference.
