Manchester synagogue attack: Man rams into crowd, stabs people, 2 killed | What we know so far
At least two people were killed and three others were injured after an assailant rammed a car into crowd and stabbed people outside a synagogue in Manchester in northwest England. Greater Manchester Police said officers shot and killed the suspect and the wounded are in a “serious condition”.
The attack took place as people gathered at an Orthodox synagogue on Yom Kippur, the day of atonement and most solemn day in the Jewish calendar.

The Greater Manchester Police said in a statement that they received a call for Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Crumpsall after around 9:30 am, citing a stabbing attack on of the persons in the public. The Manchester attack happened on Yom Kippur, the day of atonement and most solemn day in the Jewish calendar – a day when Jews are at the synagogue throughout the country. The police arrived minutes after the call and the suspect was shot dead by firearms officers. Police praised the “quick response” of the witness, which facilitated the swift response and prevented the suspect from entering the synagogue. The identity of the suspect is not known. The motive behind the attack is unknown. A bomb disposal unit was sent to the site. It is not known what the bomb disposal unit found on the suspect. Police said a loud noise heard at the scene was related to officers gaining entry to the suspect's vehicle as a precaution. British PM Keir Starmer, who was attending a summit of European leaders in Copenhagen, flew back home after the Manchester synagogue attack. The Israeli embassy in London condemned the incident, describing it as “abhorrent and deeply distressing.” King Charles III said he and his wife, Queen Camilla, were “deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the horrific attack in Manchester, especially on such a significant day for the Jewish community.” He said their "thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this appalling incident and we greatly appreciate the swift actions of the emergency services.”Source: LiveMint
