Following India's dominant seven-wicket victory against Pakistan in the Asia Cup, captain Suryakumar Yadav honored the armed forces. He also remembered the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack, expressing solidarity with their families. Yadav dedicated the win to the armed forces, acknowledging their bravery and hoping to inspire them further with on-field performances.
Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav paid tribute to the armed forces and remembered the Pahalgam victims following India's commanding seven-wicket win over Pakistan in the Asia Cup.
The arch-rivals met on the pitch for the first time since the military conflict in May, when India launched strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan after 26 people were killed in Pahalgam on April 22.
"Perfect occasion, taking the time out, we stand by the victims of the families of Pahalgam terror attack. We express our solidarity. Want to dedicate the win to all our armed forces who showed a lot of bravery. Hope they continue to inspire us all and we give them more reasons on the ground whenever we get an opportunity to make them smile," said the skipper.
On the field, India bowled Pakistan out for 127, with Kuldeep Yadav (3/18) and Axar Patel (2/18) leading the charge. Suryakumar then anchored the chase with an unbeaten 47, supported by Abhishek Sharma (31 off 13) and Tilak Varma (31 off 31), as India sealed victory in 15.5 overs.
The win not only consolidated India's position at the top of Group A but also added another chapter to their storied rivalry with Pakistan, played out under the shadow of political and security tensions.
Calls for boycott
Beyond the usual frenzy that surrounds an India–Pakistan showdown, this clash has stirred controversy, with many branding it an insult to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and to the soldiers who laid down their lives at the border.Along with cricket fans, the Opposition had also joined the boycott calls with protests and burning Pakistan-labelled effigy. On the eve of the much-anticipated India–Pakistan showdown in the Asia Cup 2025, calls for a boycott have grown louder. Political leaders, families of victims, and even former cricketers have expressed outrage over the timing of the game, which is set to take place less than five months after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives.

India registered a convincing seven-wicket victory over Pakistan in a one-sided Asia Cup Group A league match here on Sunday.Spinners Kuldeep Yadav (3/18) and Axar Patel (2/18) helped India restrict Pakistan to 127 for nine after Salman Agha opted to bat first.
In reply, India completed the chase in 15.5 overs with skipper Suryakumar Yadav (47 not out off 37 balls), Abhishek Sharma (31 off 13) and Tilak Varma (31 off 31) making significant contributions.
India began the day with Hardik Pandya dismissing Saim Ayub on the first legitimate delivery of the game and Jasprit Bumrah dismissing Mohammad Haris in the next over to leave Pakistan tottering at 6 for 2.
Spinners Kuldeep and Axar then stifled the Pakistan middle order with regular strikes.
Sahibzada Farhan scored a valiant 40 off 44 balls but the rest of the Pakistani batters cut a sorry figure on a docile track.
Shaheen Afridi hit a 16-ball 33 not out towards the end to take Pakistan past 125.
