Jude Bellingham's Extra-Time Double Fires England Into FIFA World Cup Semis
The Three Lions are a mere 2 wins away from bringing it home.
Jude Bellingham delivered another World Cup masterclass as England beat Norway 2-1 after extra time to book their place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-finals.
Bellingham struck twice, including the decisive winner three minutes into extra time, as the Three Lions recovered from going behind to set up a last-four clash against either Argentina or Switzerland.
How The Match Unfolded
Norway stunned England in the 36th minute when Andreas Schjelderup’s mishit cross looped over Jordan Pickford and into the net, despite England appeals for a foul on Harry Kane in the build-up.
England found their response on the stroke of half-time. Anthony Gordon’s clever pass found Bellingham, who produced a composed finish to level the scores and take his tournament tally to five goals.
Norway thought they had restored their lead early in the second half when Torbjorn Heggem headed home from a corner, but VAR ruled the goal out after deciding Erling Haaland had fouled Elliot Anderson during the build-up.
The Norwegians continued to threaten, with Kristoffer Ajer striking the crossbar and Pickford producing several important saves to keep England alive.
Bellingham The Man Of The Hour
After normal time ended 1-1, Bellingham stepped up again almost immediately in extra time. Morgan Rogers unleashed a powerful effort that Orjan Nyland could only parry, and the Real Madrid midfielder reacted quickest to slot home the rebound in the 93rd minute.
England were then awarded a penalty after Djed Spence went down under pressure from Oscar Bobb, but referee Clément Turpin overturned the decision following a VAR review, ruling that Spence had initiated the contact.
The decision sparked fierce debate, with several pundits arguing it was not a “clear and obvious" error, while others felt VAR had reached the correct outcome.
Despite late Norway pressure, England held on till the end of extra time to reach a second World Cup semi-final in the last three editions.
