‘I felt so unsafe’: Woman calls out Zomato rider over comments on her 11 pm order
A woman took to LinkedIn to share an uncomfortable experience during a Zomato delivery that left her feeling uneasy.
Updated on: Jun 05, 2026 10:11 AM IST By Vaishali Kapila Share via Copy link A woman’s account of an uncomfortable interaction with a food delivery rider has resonated with many people online, particularly women who shared similar concerns about safety and privacy. The incident, shared on LinkedIn by Aanya Wig, raised questions about delivery partners commenting on customers' orders and the unease that can follow such encounters. Sharing her experience, Aanya wrote, "I had the weirdest interaction last night with a Zomato rider and felt so unsafe." Many women related to the safety concerns highlighted in the viral post. (Representational Image)What happened?
According to Aanya, she had re-ordered paan after dinner and stepped outside alone around 11 pm to collect the delivery. She said the delivery partner first asked whether she was the one who had placed the order. "I didn't engage," she wrote, explaining that she was alone at the time. However, the interaction did not end there. Aanya claimed that while handing over the packet, the rider made another remark about her being "a girl and of this age" and ordering paan. The comment left her feeling uncomfortable and unsafe. Questioning why delivery personnel could access order details and comment on them, she wrote, "How does your delivery partner have any authority to see what I've ordered, make a comment and pretend as if he has some right (or say) in what I order and don't?" Aanya also expressed concern about reporting the incident. She pointed out that while a complaint could lead to disciplinary action against the rider, he already knew where she lived. "Once I lodged a complaint I wondered what the repercussions would be for me?" she wrote, adding, "If anything happens to hurt his ego, he knows exactly where I stay." (Also Read: ‘No national security lost’: Ex-Lt Gen defends Army pilot’s viral proposal) Tagging Zomato, she urged the company to sensitise its delivery partners and improve customer safety measures. Responding to the post, Zomato commented, "Hi Aanya, please DM us your order ID and we will look into this on priority." Take a look:Internet shares similar concerns
Many LinkedIn users sympathised with Aanya and said the incident reflected a broader concern around women's safety. One person wrote, "It's literally scary. I have this fear almost every time when I order anything from these apps. There should be some ways to protect basic things of customers." Another commented, "It's getting worse day by day in Delhi/NCR. It's very scary because he knows where you live." Several users highlighted how women often alter their behaviour to avoid uncomfortable situations. "I've lost count of the number of times I've pretended like I was talking to someone at the back while receiving an order," one person shared. "It's exhausting that so many of us have to constantly think about our safety." Others questioned whether delivery workers receive adequate customer-relations training. One comment read, "I think contractors and freelancers aren't given training as such. These riders can work for multiple platforms and because they're only contractors, most companies don't invest in such training." Another user remarked, "'If something hurts his ego, he knows where I am living' sounds super scary."
