In Hyderabad’s Santosh Nagar, workers were seen handling heavy iron rods while constructing a steel bridge even as vehicles continue to move directly below them. The videos from the area have left many people questioning how such work is being carried out without basic safety measures.
The videos sparked a heated discussion about worker safety and public risk. Many viewers pointed out that the situation does not just endanger the labourers on the bridge but also the commuters passing underneath.
Hyderabad: Heavy Rods Over Moving Traffic
The footage shows two construction workers carrying a massive iron rod on their shoulders across the bridge before fixing it into position. The way the rod is being handled immediately raises alarm. A single slip could send the rod crashing down onto the busy road below which could lead to a tragic accident.
What has added to the outrage is the visible lack of safety precautions. There are no safety cables attached. The workers are not wearing helmets. They do not appear to have proper shoes either. If they lose balance while carrying such heavy material at that height, they themselves could fall into the traffic below.
The clip was shared on X (formerly Twitter) with a sharp caption that read: “Steel bridge work above, live traffic below, every safety norm thrown out the window. One slip and someone becomes pulp worth Rs 4 lakh in compensation. Santosh nagar, Hyderabad."

Another video from the same location shows workers walking across extremely narrow sections of the bridge while carrying rods. One wrong step in that situation could prove fatal.

Outrage And Fear From Social Media Users
The video led to strong reactions from social media users, most of whom expressed anger and concern.
One user wrote, “Look how heavy iron beams being lifted for a bridge… while vehicles pass right beneath it. One slip. One miscalculation. Dozens of lives at risk. Your life is worth just Rs 4 lakh compensation and an X post. That’ all."
Another questioned, “Who is allowing such dangerous activities? Not just the vehicles below but safety of the workmen too."
“Amazing planning. Lift heavy beams over live traffic. What could possibly go wrong, right?" someone else remarked.
A concerned individual said, “That’s extremely risky. If steel bridge work is happening directly above live traffic in Santosh Nagar, basic safety protocols like barricading, diversion, netting, and helmet enforcement should be mandatory. One mistake shouldn’t cost a life — and compensation is never equal to safety. Authorities need to step in before an accident forces action."
“Steel bridge work happening overhead while traffic moves below? This is a disaster waiting to happen. Basic safety protocols shouldn’t be optional," a viewer wrote.
“Contractor should be fined heavily," a person demanded.
“Total disregard to the basic worker safety rules, no helmets, no harness. What happens if they slip? What happens to their loved ones? Who is responsible? The site contractor should be arrested immediately and file criminal negligence charges," read another comment.
Mumbai Man Injured After Iron Rod Fell On Him
The outrage reminds of a recent accident in Mumbai. A 23-year-old man was severely injured while passing under a bridge near KEM Hospital on Friday night, February 27. As per a report in Midday, he was hit on the head by an iron rod that reportedly fell from ongoing construction work at the Sewri-Worli bridge above.
