Hrithik Roshan Backs Sonam Wangchuk Amid Hunger Strike: ‘I Learnt About Students’ Trauma When…’
In the last few days, a number of Bollywood celebrities including Sonakshi Sinha, Zeenat Aman, Atul Kulkarni, Omi Vaidya and others extended their support to Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike over alleged irregularities related to the NEET-UG examination. Now, Hrithik Roshan has also joined the list of celebs who have publicly voiced their support for Wangchuk. Backing Sonam Wangchuk’s call for accountability over alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak case, Hrithik Roshan said he learnt about the trauma students endure while preparing for his film Super 30, in which he portrays mathematics educator Anand Kumar.
As Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike entered Day 20, Hrithik Roshan showed his support for the activist. The actor reshared a post by Lisa Ray which shows Wangchuk questioning the public’s silence over alleged paper leak. In the video, Wangchuk says, “When will you wake up? Twenty young souls have taken their own lives. They worked hard all their lives to sincerely prepare for these exams. And even those exams are rigged." He goes on to allege that such issues not only devastate students and their families but could also have wider consequences by allowing undeserving candidates to enter critical professions such as medicine and engineering.
Hrithik Roshan reacted to the video, and wrote, “This sounds true. I learnt about the trauma students go through when I played a teacher in one of my movies." For the unversed, the actor played the role of a mathematics teacher, Anand Kumar, in Vikas Bahl’s Super 30.
Meanwhile, Sonakshi expressed concern for Sonam Wangchuk’s deteriorating health and said, “I’ve never given a statement out like this, but today we can’t ignore him. Sonam Wangchuk. We all know him. We know what he has done for our country, what his achievements are and how many awards he has won."

She continued, “He is hungry. He hasn’t eaten anything. For whom is he doing this? He is doing this for the future of children who lost their lives. He is fighting a system which is not working properly. I know this. You know this. We all know this. A lot many people are still silent. I can’t stay silent. Whatever will happen, let it happen. No problem. I can’t remain silent."
She also requested the government to initiate a dialogue with Sonam and said, “Why is nobody listening? Nobody cares. Nobody is open for a dialogue." The actress then mentioned that she decided to issue a video statement because it was high time for her to speak up. “Main koi anti-national nahi hu," she said.
The 59-year-old Sonam Wangchuk has been on fast for 20 days, demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the irregularities and paper leak allegations linked to the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET)-UG conducted on May 3.
A peaceful march towards Parliament has been announced for July 20. The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has also called on citizens to join its July 20 march to Parliament.
Celebrity support for Sonam Wangchuk's hunger strike over NEET-UG irregularities has grown, with Hrithik Roshan, Sonakshi Sinha, Zeenat Aman, and others publicly backing the activist.
