LeBron James had the sports world holding its breath Tuesday, teasing what he called “the decision of all decisions."
Naturally, the speculation was off the charts — after all, this was LeBron, the NBA's all-time leading scorer, about to turn 41 in December, playing in his 23rd season.
Fans and media alike braced for something monumental: retirement, a trade, or some late-career bombshell.
Of course, for long-time followers, the reference to “the decision" instantly brought back memories of July 2010.
Fifteen years ago, LeBron sat opposite broadcaster Jim Gray on a live ESPN special and announced that he was leaving his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers to join the Miami Heat.
The moment, forever etched in NBA lore, became a cultural phenomenon — both infamous and iconic — and set the bar for how athletes announce life-changing moves.
Fans scrambled, ticket prices for the Lakers' final regular-season game skyrocketed, and speculation ran wild: Was King James finally calling it quits after 23 seasons in the NBA?
Turns out…not quite.
The Lakers superstar revealed a limited-edition Hennessy V.S.O.P cognac, featuring his name on the label and his signature “crowning" gesture: a nod to his long-standing “King James" persona.
“This fall, I'm going to be taking my talents to Hennessy V.S.O.P," LeBron said in the ad, cheekily echoing his phrasing from 2010.
Hennessy described the release as “a creative reunion and celebration of shared cultural legacy," celebrating LeBron's impact both on and off the court.
Obviously, fans erupted in frustration and relief at the same time.
In anticipation of a possible retirement, tickets for the Lakers' final home game of the 2025-26 season, an April 12 matchup against the Utah Jazz, skyrocketed within hours of the initial video's teaser release.
According to TickPick, the cheapest available seat jumped from $85 to $445, while SeatGeek reported the lowest ticket price at $821. On Ticketmaster, prices started at just over $955. No laughing matter.
But, it seems like James was the one who got the last laugh here, as he wrapped the ad with a smirk and a simple line: “I like my decision."
