Union Home minister Amit Shah in poll bound Assam in two different public meetings on January 30 said that in the last ten years of BJP rule in Assam there is no infiltration adding that in next five years under the leadership of chief minister Himanta Biswa it will be ensured that each and all infiltrators who are here are detected and expelled from Assam.
Shah had said that only the ruling BJP can keep Assam safe from illegal infiltrators and urged people to bring the party back to power in the next assembly elections. Once the number of illegal infiltrators was minimal in Assam, but they have grown to 64 lakh population now.
Sarma on Sunday started his day meeting people from different walks of life, visited temples and also attended several government programmes.
He said, “ On my birthday I get to meet people from at least five generations and try to meet whoever comes to greet me. This year there is only one plan and that is to bring back the BJP for a third consecutive term in Assam. Assam is going to polls this year.”
He added, “ It is almost 25 years since I started politics and have been MLA and minister so people associated since then their children and relatives come on this day to greet me, I meet them all. Till now I have got peoples blessing and I am in public life and from this I draw inference that whatever I do I am doing good for the people.”
Sarma said, “I sleep for 1.30 minutes to 2 hours and take some nap while travelling by air or in car. During the election I slept 1.30 minutes to 2 hours and on normal days it is five hours. Since August last year I haven't slept for more than 2 hours. It is my hobby. I move out with my daughter at night in the car when she is in Guwahati. I travel in Guwahati and in the vicinity of Guwahati with her.”
The chief minister said, “I have confidence this time we will get more seats than last assembly polls.”
In the present assembly BJP has 64 MLAs. Sarma had planned to make parliamentary debut and put his candidature to contest Lok Sabha polls in 2019 from Tezpur. However, that did not materialise for the party that wanted him to continue in state politics.
