Gulf flight status for March 4: Air India, Air India Express & IndiGo plan 58 special flights
India is monitoring the airspace situation in parts of West Asia after the ongoing Iran conflict disrupted international flight operations. So far, 1,221 flights operated by Indian carriers and 388 flights by foreign carriers have been cancelled. The Ministry of Civil Aviation said passenger safety remains the top priority and airlines are adjusting schedules while restoring services in a phased manner.
Flight Cancellations and Current Operations
The large number of cancellations reflects the impact of restricted airspace across parts of the Gulf region. Indian carriers operated 24 flights on Tuesday despite the disruptions. Emirates and Etihad together operated nine flights from the Gulf to India, indicating limited but continuing connectivity between the two regions.
“Indian carriers are further planning 58 flights on 4th March, including 30 by IndiGo and 23 by Air India and Air India Express. Foreign carriers operating between India and the Gulf region are also undertaking limited operations, subject to operational and airspace considerations,” the Ministry said. These operations remain dependent on security assessments and route clearances.
Alternative Routings and Schedule Adjustments
Indian carriers have made changes to their long-haul and ultra-long-haul schedules. Airlines are using alternative routes that avoid restricted or high-risk airspace. The Ministry said these calibrated adjustments aim to balance safety requirements with the need to maintain essential international connectivity.
Airlines are reviewing routes on a daily basis and coordinating with aviation authorities to ensure compliance with global safety standards. Services are being resumed progressively as operational conditions permit.
Support Measures for Stranded Passengers
The government said special arrangements are in place to assist stranded passengers. Airlines are deploying additional capacity on select routes and working closely with foreign aviation authorities and Indian missions abroad.
“Special arrangements are being made to facilitate the movement of stranded passengers, with airlines deploying additional capacity where required and coordinating closely with foreign aviation authorities and Indian missions abroad to ensure safe and orderly passenger movement,” the statement said. Airlines have also been advised to maintain transparent communication and follow regulatory norms related to refunds, rescheduling, and passenger assistance.
Monitoring Airfares and Passenger Advisory
The Ministry said it is in continuous touch with airlines and is monitoring ticket prices to ensure there is no undue surge during the disruption. Authorities have asked carriers to ensure compliance with passenger protection rules.
The statement said, “Passengers are advised to check the latest flight status directly with their respective airlines before proceeding to the airport and to rely only on official sources for updates.” Officials said further updates will be issued as the situation evolves.
Escalating Conflict
The airspace disruption follows coordinated US and Israeli airstrikes on February 28 across several Iranian cities. The strikes targeted military command centres, air-defence systems, missile sites, and key regime infrastructure. Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and four senior military and security officials were killed. Explosions were reported in Tehran and other major cities.
Iran responded by launching ballistic missiles and drones at US assets and allies in the region, including Israel, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan. The widening conflict has increased security concerns across the Middle East and affected civilian and expatriate movement, leading to continued uncertainty in international flight operations.
