Air travel continues to be disrupted as escalating tensions in West Asia affect flight operations. Indian carriers – Air India and Air India Express – announced that they will operate 78 flights to and from the UAE and West Asia on Friday (March 13). The carriers, along with their scheduled services to Jeddah and Muscat, will also be operating multiple non-scheduled flights across the UAE and Saudi Arabia to accommodate passenger demand. Meanwhile, authorities in Dubai said that the airport is functioning under adjusted schedules, with airlines gradually restoring services while following strict safety protocols.
Officials as quoted by a report by Times of India, confirmed that operations at Dubai International Airport and Al Maktoum International Airport are ongoing but not at full capacity. Only select flights are currently operating as the situation remains uncertain. Passengers have been advised not to head to the airport without a confirmed booking, as schedules remain fluid. Dubai Airports earlier said that more than 1,140 flights were handled within 84 hours as part of efforts to restore connectivity and assist stranded passengers, TOI reported.
Scheduled services: To Jeddah, Air India is operating one round-trip flight each from Delhi and Mumbai, while Air India Express is running one round-trip service from Hyderabad.
For Muscat, Air India Express continues scheduled flights from Delhi, Kannur, Kochi, Kozhikode, Mumbai, and Thiruvananthapuram. In total, airlines are operating six flights to and from Jeddah and 12 services to and from Muscat.
Non-scheduled and special flights: Both Air India and Air India Express will operate one special round-trip flight each to Riyadh from Mumbai and Kozhikode. In addition, around 60 non-scheduled flights are expected to operate between India and the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, subject to slot availability and regulatory approvals.
UAE operations: Ad-hoc flights are being operated to multiple Indian cities from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah, and Sharjah by Air India and Air India Express. No flights are scheduled from Al Ain.
Saudi Arabia operations: Flights to Jeddah are currently operating as per the scheduled services, while Riyadh will be served only through special non-scheduled flights by the two carriers. No flights are operating to Dammam at present.
Other destinations: Operations to Salalah, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, and Israel remain limited or suspended. However, flights to North America, Europe, Australia, and other global destinations are continuing as per regular schedules.
Major UAE carriers have revised their schedules as they gradually resume services. Emirates, the Dubai-based airline, is operating a reduced flight schedule, prioritising passengers whose travel plans were disrupted due to the regional tensions. The airline has urged passengers to check their flight status through official channels before travelling.
Etihad Airways has also issued an updated schedule valid through March 15. The Abu Dhabi-based carrier said it is working to accommodate affected passengers and has introduced flexible rebooking and refund options. Flights from Abu Dhabi are operating to several major destinations, including London, New York, Paris and Indian cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad.
Budget carrier flydubai is currently operating limited flights, while passengers booked between February 28 and March 31 have the option to rebook to the same destination within 30 days.
Similarly, Air Arabia is running restricted services from Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah to select destinations until March 22. Routes currently operating include cities such as Vienna, Chittagong, Dhaka, Cairo, Athens, Milan-Bergamo, Amman, Nairobi, Islamabad, Karachi and Bangkok.
