Delhi Musician’s Viral ‘Winter Qawwali’ Gets ‘Stolen’, She Faces Copyright Blow: ‘Not Like I’d Become Very Rich, But…’
A song's copyright has become a matter of debate on social media. Content creator and singer Priyanka Parashar claimed that her Winter Qawwali, which she composed a week ago, was copyrighted by someone else. Priyanka alleged that a person named Arman Khan has copyrighted the song in his name, meaning she is facing copyright claims on her original composition. Priyanka explained the matter in an Instagram clip and alleged that all her earnings from the video were going to Arman. She also showed a screenshot, which said that the song was reportedly registered in his name.
The content creator explained that she did not know much about the field of copyright claims, but never expected such a situation to happen to her. She asked her followers to tag DistroKid, which reportedly copyrighted the song in Arman's name, so that they could “understand" something wrong was happening with an artist and they could “cancel" the rights in Arman's name.
In a comment later, Priyanka thanked her followers for her support and said she had raised the matter with Meta Support. “It is a learning for me and I wanted to share this experience with you all so other artists can also be careful. Today the earnings might not be much but tomorrow if your creation is watched or heard by many then these things become pretty important," she explained.

Priyanka Parashar had posted the Winter Qawwali on her social media handles a week ago. The clip has already received over 92 lakh views on Instagram alone. Priyanka's claims could not be independently verified by News18. Her allegations have gone viral on social media platforms, with several accounts supporting her demands.

Several people felt that Priyanka's allegations had merit and slammed DistroKid for copyrighting the song in someone's name. One user called the incident “disgusting."
Another slammed DistroKid for reportedly giving the copy to Arman Khan without any verification and asked them to cancel it and award the claim to Priyanka. “Hey @DistroKid this is pretty much shameful that you have given the copyright of Priyanka Parashar to someone else. Do the right thing and cancel the copyright of that thief, ban him and award the copyright to the right person. This is a terrible thing to do what you had done without verification. Just terrible. Do better," a comment read.
One account explained that artists own their music's rights from the moment they create it, and no one else should be able to claim the track if Priyanka had composed it. They tagged DistroKid and wrote, “Please verify Priyanka Parashar's claim. If found true, please apologise to her, release your claim, and compensate her for the lost revenue and the trouble caused."
One person called the incident an example of how US-based companies are treating Indian content creators and called for limits on their use.

What Did DistroKid Say?
DistroKid's official Instagram handle states that “it is the easiest way for music creators to get their music on Spotify, Apple Music, TikTok, Instagram, and more." As of now, DistroKid has not given any official response to the claims. No response from Arman Khan, who allegedly owns the copyright for Priyanka's song now, could be found either.
