Delhi Man Shares How He Was Laid Off Just 2 Days After Joining Job: ‘Name And Shame Them’
A man from Delhi shared his troubling experience of losing a job just two days after joining a new company. He turned to Reddit for advice after being laid off without any severance pay.
The man had been working as a Financial Analyst at a small company in Gurugram for two years. In August, he moved to a food-based direct-to-consumer start-up in Saket, joining in a junior FP&A role. He had high hopes for this new opportunity but faced an unexpected setback almost immediately.
The Man Was Laid Off Two Days After Joining
In his Reddit post titled “Laid off in just 2 days after joining," the man explained his situation. “Hi everyone, I just wanted some advice," he wrote.
“I joined the new firm after resigning from my previous job. But after only two days, my manager told me they were now looking for someone at a managerial level who could take on more responsibilities. I was laid off immediately, so I accepted it and left," the post also mentioned.
He added that this sudden job loss had left him struggling to find new work. “Since then, I have been applying for FP&A positions but have not been able to get one. It has started affecting my mental and physical health. If possible, can anyone help me navigate this or provide some useful advice?" the post also added.
He further explained why returning to his former employer wasn't an option. “I trained my replacement before leaving, and he is doing well there. So going back is not an option," he wrote.
Reddit Users Asked Him to Name the Company
The post, shared on September 8, received over 200 upvotes, and many Reddit users expressed their anger towards the company.
“Name and shame them. They can't lay off someone instantly without severance pay," a user said. However, the man responded, “It's not worth it. The package wasn't great, and I don't want to engage with those people anymore. I just want to focus on finding a new job."
When asked if the company had offered any compensation, the man replied, “No. On the second day, they just said they needed a managerial role instead, so I had to leave."

Some users pointed out that severance pay is generally only provided after an employee has worked for a year. One comment explained, “He could file a case for mental distress due to termination without notice, but legally, severance doesn't apply here."
Although there was a debate about whether he should take legal action, the man decided not to challenge the company. Instead, his priority remained finding a new job and moving forward from the difficult experience.
