CBSE Issues Reminder For Class 10, 12 Practicals For 2026 Board Exams
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued an important reminder to all schools about the Class 10 and Class 12 practical exams, internal assessments, and project work for the 2026 board exams. CBSE stresses the necessity of adhering to the prescribed rules to ensure the smooth conduct of these exams.
The practical exams for Class 10 and 12 are set to take place from January 1 to February 14, 2026. CBSE has underlined the role of practical exams in determining final results. Schools, students, and parents are advised to take these exams seriously, as any errors or delays could cause problems later on.
All practical exams, projects, and internal assessments must be completed within this period. Schools are required to upload the marks on the same day the practical exam is conducted. Once uploaded, marks cannot be altered, so schools must be meticulous while entering them.
“Schools should check maximum marks assigned to Practical/Project/Internal Assessment before awarding & uploading the marks. Principals are requested to ensure that correct marks are uploaded as requests for correction of marks post result will not be entertained," the CBSE stated.
Schools must ensure they have sufficient practical answer books before the exams begin. In case of any shortage, the school should immediately inform the CBSE regional office. “Ensure that necessary arrangements like infrastructure, equipment, and materials are available in the laboratories for conducting practical exams. Check that the laboratories or facilities are adequately set up for students to perform their experiments," states the official notice.
For Class 12 practical exams, only examiners appointed by CBSE are allowed. Schools cannot select their own examiners. Using an unauthorised examiner may lead to the cancellation of the practical exam. Schools should contact external examiners early to avoid last-minute issues.
CBSE has instructed schools to make proper arrangements for students with special needs, ensuring they receive the necessary support to comfortably take their practical exams.
Students involved in national or international sports events will not be exempt from practical exams, and no separate exam dates will be provided. These students must attend practical exams as per the school schedule.
CBSE has warned schools to adhere strictly to all instructions. Any violations may result in the cancellation of the practical exam. The board has also informed schools that the payment rates for teachers and examiners involved in practical exams have been updated for the 2025–26 session.

Students have been advised to stay in regular communication with their schools and complete their practical files and projects on time. They must attend the exams as scheduled and follow all guidelines. Parents should stay informed about updates from the school to avoid any confusion.
CBSE has reiterated that practical exams are as important as theory exams, and proper preparation and adherence to rules are essential for every student.
