BJP's First-Ever Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari’s Rs 85.87 Lakh Net Worth Sparks Buzz After Affidavit Reveals 'No Car, No Gold'
Senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, who emerged as one of the biggest winners of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections after securing both Nandigram and Bhabanipur, has declared total assets worth Rs 85.87 lakh in his election affidavit. Adkikari is set to take oath as West Bengal Chief Minister tomorrow and will become the BJP’s first-ever CM in the state.
The disclosure has drawn attention online for its unusually modest details, with the BJP leader reporting just Rs 12,000 in cash, no private vehicle, no jewellery, and zero liabilities.
According to the affidavit filed before the Election Commission of India (ECI) and accessed through the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), Adhikari’s total declared assets stand at Rs 85,87,600. The affidavit also states that he has no outstanding loans, borrowings, or dues to any government authority, making him debt-free.
Just Rs 12,000 Cash In Hand
The BJP leader’s movable assets are valued at Rs 24.57 lakh. Of this, cash in hand amounts to only Rs 12,000. He has also declared that he does not own any car or other personal vehicle. In the jewellery section of the affidavit, Adhikari has listed “nil," indicating he owns no gold or precious ornaments.
14 Bank Accounts Across Bengal And Delhi
A significant portion of his movable wealth is spread across 14 bank accounts held with various public and cooperative banks, including Punjab National Bank, State Bank of India, Axis Bank, IDBI Bank, Vidyasagar Central Cooperative Bank, Balageria CC Bank, Card Bank, and Cooperative Bank Contai.
These accounts, located mainly in Contai, Nandigram, Tamluk, and Delhi, together hold deposits worth Rs 7.34 lakh.
LIC Policies Worth Rs 7.71 Lakh
Apart from bank deposits, Adhikari’s savings are concentrated in government-backed financial instruments. He has declared investments of Rs 5.45 lakh in National Savings Certificates (NSCs) and Rs 2.60 lakh in Kisan Vikas Patras.
His postal savings account contains Rs 60,523. Additionally, six LIC insurance policies collectively account for Rs 7.71 lakh in value. He has also disclosed cooperative bank shares worth Rs 14,240.
The affidavit further reveals that Adhikari’s immovable assets are valued at Rs 61.30 lakh, most of which are located in Purba Medinipur district, considered the political stronghold of the Adhikari family for decades.
Agricultural land in the Nandigram area has been valued at Rs 9.05 lakh. Non-agricultural plots in Panchdaria, Dharmadasbar, Karkuli, and Sinachurajalpai are collectively worth Rs 27.50 lakh.
He has also declared ownership of three residential properties, including flats in Tamluk and Kumarpur, along with a jointly owned ancestral property in Karkuli. Together, these residential assets are valued at Rs 24.75 lakh.
Annual Income Rose To Rs 17.38 Lakh
Adhikari’s affidavit also provides details of his income over the last five financial years. According to his Income Tax Return for 2024-25, he reported an annual income of Rs 17.38 lakh.
His sources of income include MLA salary, MP pension, and business activities. The figures indicate a steady rise in earnings over the years, from Rs 8.13 lakh in 2020-21 and Rs 8.08 lakh in 2021-22 to Rs 8.78 lakh in 2022-23, Rs 10.37 lakh in 2023-24, and finally Rs 17.38 lakh in 2024-25.
Pending Criminal Cases Against The BJP Leader
The affidavit also mentions that 29 criminal cases are currently pending against the BJP leader.
These include allegations related to promoting enmity between groups, criminal intimidation, defamation, theft, and cases registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. However, the affidavit states that no charges have been framed against him in any of these cases so far.
Adhikari’s financial disclosures have generated significant discussion online, especially as he is widely expected to play a major role in Bengal politics after being elected as the BJP Legislature Party leader in the state.
