Bihar Train TTE Asks ‘Nihang Sikh’ To Show Ticket, Gets ‘Humari Nahi Hoti’ Reply – But Is This Claim True?

Bihar Train TTE Asks ‘Nihang Sikh’ To Show Ticket, Gets ‘Humari Nahi Hoti’ Reply – But Is This Claim True?
A brief exchange inside a train coach involving a man in traditional Nihang attire and a Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE), has drawn attention for the unusual claim made during their conversation. The moment was recorded by a nearby passenger and the video of it has now surfaced online.
The recording shows the TTE walking up to the man and asking him for his reservation details. The conversation that follows takes an unexpected turn when the man claims that he is a Nihang Sikh who doesn't require ticket while travelling on trains. His replies immediately raise questions among viewers about whether any such exemption for travel actually exists.
The Exchange Between TTE And A Nihang Sikh
As the TTE asks him to show his reservation ticket, the man responds, “Nihang Sikh hai. Humari ticket nahi hoti (We are Nihang Sikh. We are not required to have tickets)." The official then asks, “Aapki seat nahi hai? (You don't have a seat?)," to which the man again repeats, “Humari seat nahi hoti (We are not required to book seat)."
He then tells the TTE he is travelling to Buxar in Bihar. The official also asks if he has a general ticket and whether he is travelling alone.
During the conversation, the passenger filming the clip suddenly asks the TTE, “What is your rank?"
The TTE continues questioning the man and asks, “Authority hai aapke paas? Kya hai? (Do you have any authority? What do you have?)"
The person filming then adds, “License hoti hai bhai Nihang Sikh ka (Nihang Sikhs have a licence)" while the man begins to take something out of his bag. The video ends at this point and it is unclear what happened next.
The clip was posted on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption: “Ticket collector asked man for the train ticket. Man: I am Nihang Sikh. There is no ticket for us for travelling. We always travel free. We have license of Nihang. Everyone becoming freeloader in our country."

Viewers Question The Claim
The video has triggered a massive debate around what the man claimed.
One user commented, “That's a really interesting situation! I've never heard of a special license for Nihang Sikhs travelling freely. Is this a tradition that's been around for a long time, or is it more of a modern interpretation? I'm curious to learn more about the reasoning behind it."
Another said, “Why can't stations allow entry only to valid ticket holders? Such poor administration. Metro trains can, why not railways? We need progress, hygiene & accountability. Poor ticketing, poor facilities, poor food—everything needs improvement."
“Sikhs are seekers who walk the path of the divine. But men who hide behind a turban to posture as superior or privileged must be called out with absolute firmness and brought back to humility," a person remarked.
“Clown behaviour of avoiding train tickets," an individual sharply said while a viewer demanded, “Please take action against such ticket less travellers. They take advantage of the system and travel free of cost. It's a loss to railways."
Someone else pointed out, “Indian Railways does not give any exemption to Nihang Sikhs for free travel. Every passenger, regardless of religion or community, must carry a valid ticket."
Railways Respond To Viral Clip
After the video gained traction, the official Railway Seva handle responded to the post and asked for complete details to initiate action.
Their reply read, “Please share details like Train no., Date of incidence, journey details (PNR/UTS no.) and mobile no. preferably via DM to enable us to take immediate action."

Are Nihang Sikhs Exempt From Needing A Train Ticket?
Swipe Left For Next Video
Nihang Sikhs are known for their distinct identity, martial history, blue attire and disciplined traditions. But the Indian Railways does not provide a special exemption that allows them to travel without a ticket. Every passenger, without exception, must have a valid ticket to board a train.
Some categories such as students, differently abled passengers or senior citizens may receive travel concessions but these concessions still require the passenger to hold a ticket. They do not cancel the ticket requirement entirely.
