Bihar CM Nitish Kumar transfers ₹10,000 each to 25 lakh women under employment scheme
Ahead of the Assembly election, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday (October 3, 2025) transferred ₹2500 crore through DBT into the bank accounts of 25 lakh women across Bihar giving financial assistance of ₹10,000 each under Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana.
Both Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha were present during the programme organised in Patna at CM's Office.
Earlier on September 26, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had transferred the fund of ₹7,500 crore to the bank accounts of 75 lakh women through video conferencing from Delhi.
The scheme “Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana” to give one woman of each family the opportunity to start a business of her own choice. So far, a total of ₹10,000 crore has been transferred to the accounts of 1 crore women beneficiaries.
Addressing the event, Mr. Kumar said, “I heartily congratulate all the mothers and sisters who have joined this programme in large numbers through video conference. It is a matter of great joy that today, under the scheme 25 lakh women are receiving assistance of ₹10,000 each in their accounts.”
He added that financial assistance to the remaining women would be transferred on October 8, 2025.
“I am confident that all mothers and sisters will start good employment opportunities with this ₹10,000. This will bring prosperity to your families and accelerate the development of the state and the country. I express my gratitude to all the dignitaries present at this event,” Mr. Kumar said.
Attacking the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)'s tenure, Mr. Kumar said that the previous government did nothing and the situation was bad. He asserted development is taking place in Bihar in every sector and the rule of law prevails in the state.
The Chief Minister also said that Bihar is receiving full support from the Central Government for its development and numerous development initiatives are underway in the state, and Bihar is rapidly progressing.
The scheme is basically meant to create employment opportunities in the state especially for rural women which, in turn, would ensure their economic empowerment.
Self Help Groups (SHGs) members also known as Jeevika didi also joined the programme through live telecast at district level and block level.
Under the scheme, priority is given to those women who either belong to the economically weaker section or those who do not have a permanent source of income. The benefit of the scheme is given to those who have a nuclear family (comprising husband, wife & unmarried children).
Unmarried adult women are eligible to get the benefit of the scheme whose parents are not alive. Applicants must be in the age-group of 18-60 years.
The state cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had on August 29, 2025, approved this scheme.
Scheme meant to empower women through financial assistance to start their own business. After evaluating performance, an additional ₹2 lakh as grant will be given to women entrepreneurs after 6 months.
The assistance can be utilized in areas of the choice of the beneficiary including agriculture, animal husbandry, handicrafts, tailoring, weaving, and other small-scale enterprises.
Earlier, Mr. Modi had pointed out that the Rojgar Yojana has further strengthened the Central Government's Lakhpati Didi campaign. Mr. Modi remarked that with the way governments at Union and State are advancing this initiative, the day is not far when Bihar will have the highest number of Lakhpati Didis in the country.
