Arsenal Calling In Air Support? Mikel Arteta Reveals Bizarre Plan To Improve Communication

Mikel Arteta has never been one to follow the rule book — he rewrites it entirely (just watch All or Nothing, if you don't believe us).

Since taking over at Arsenal, the Spanish manager has transformed not just the team's tactics, but the very culture of the club.

And Arteta's newest idea might just be another feather in his cap of fascinating ideas.

Learning from Unlikely Sources

In a recent talk on leadership, Arteta revealed plans to invite Royal Air Force (RAF) fighter pilots to Arsenal to help refine how he communicates with his players.

His goal is simple: ensure messages are delivered clearly, efficiently, and without confusion — much like pilots must do in life-or-death situations.

“[Curiosity has taken me] to many places. It's a constant improvement. I can wake up one day and say, ‘my process on match day is not good enough. Why we are communicating to the players… I don't like it. Who is the best at that?'" Arteta explained.

He continued, “The British fighter planes, for example… I will get in touch with those guys. They don't use 20 phrases if one word is enough. Don't say, ‘the wind is coming this way, now you have to turn left,' because boom—dead. One word."

Arteta has already introduced innovative coaching methods learned under Pep Guardiola, applying them to modernise Arsenal's training, analysis, and on-field strategy.

Now, he is looking to the skies for his next lesson, demonstrating a willingness to learn from outside football itself to give his team an edge.
