A sharp exchange has erupted between former Pakistan pacer and ex-India batter after the two traded jabs over India’s campaign in the ongoing . The row began when Kaif accused Amir of making provocative remarks about India merely to gain attention. Amir has now fired back, questioning Kaif’s cricketing record and claiming he has every right to speak his mind during match analysis. The argument has caught fans' attention because Amir has repeatedly commented on India’s chances in the tournament, drawing strong reactions from fans and former players alike.
How Mohammad Amir vs Mohammad Kaif controversy began
The friction started after Amir made a series of remarks about the Indian team during the tournament. He described opener Abhishek Sharma as a “slogger” and predicted that India would fail to reach the semi-finals.Those comments did not go down well with many Indian supporters. When India continued to perform strongly, Kaif responded publicly and suggested Amir was deliberately stirring controversy to remain in the spotlight.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Kaif said Amir’s statements were meant to create headlines rather than offer serious cricket analysis.
"Did Amir really not know that India would reach the semifinals? He also knew it, that the defending champions will make it. But because it will become news, they do all these things. We must not give them importance. There is no need for us to come down to their level and reply," he said.
Amir hits back at Kaif, says Aap Dada ko thank you bole
Amir did not stay silent and soon responded through his own YouTube channel, questioning Kaif’s cricketing record and defending his right to comment on teams during tournaments.“I don't know about his cricketing career, how much he's played. I checked his stats; he just played 29 matches in the IPL. He has a strike rate of 103. He said that I was speaking about India to gain some attention. Firstly, I don't need to get attention by speaking about India. Mr Kaif, I have played 350 T20s, you can check my stats. Moreover, main bas fielding pe cricket nahi khela (I didn't play cricket just due to my fielding),” said Amir on his YouTube channel.
He went further and suggested that Kaif should thank former India captain Sourav Ganguly for giving him opportunities in the Indian team.
“I have played after giving performances. Aap Dada ko thank you bole (You should be thankful to Dada, Sourav Ganguly). I have heard that you played cricket only because of your fielding. You are a cricketer; these sorts of statements don't suit you,” he added.
‘Even I can say’
Amir also insisted that his comments about India were simply part of normal cricket analysis and not aimed at provoking fans.“There was nothing to feel bad about. It was just a case of giving opinions. I am doing so, and you are as well. When Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja were there, I always used to pick India as favourites,” said Amir.
“Right now, I don't think they are favourites. I don't know where this comment about me being an attention seeker has come from. You have played fewer T20S than I have. Even I can say that you spoke about Mohammad Amir to gain some attention in Pakistan,” he added.
Kaif had earlier targeted Amir’s past performance
Before Amir’s response, Kaif had also criticised the Pakistan pacer by recalling Pakistan’s shock defeat to the USA during the 2024 T20 World Cup."The loss that they faced against the USA in 2024, it was the same bowler who was the reason. In that over, there was only one boundary, but too many wides. His ball did not even land on the stumps. Who got scared against that USA team and made his team lose the game, then I do not have to say more," he remarked.
Kaif also urged Indian fans and players not to engage with Amir’s comments.
"Why are we focusing on him? The country that is so behind in the sport, they have no players, no solid captain, or a solid bowler, nothing. Just let them be. We don't have to talk about everything they talk. They cannot come to our level. They have different problems. If we focus on their comments, it is like we are giving them importance, and that is what they want anyway," he added.

The exchange has added another layer of drama to the ongoing T20 World Cup conversation.
